Are you a Good Omnivore?
“The Omnivore’s Hundred” was posted on the British blog Very Good Taste by Andrew Wheeler back in August. It is an interactive meme for bloggers. He lists 100 things that he thinks every good omnivore should have tried at least once in his/her life. Some of the items are ordinary, some are dangerous, some are exotic, and some are just plain bad. Check out his list below and see how you do. So far he has had 1,111 responses. I have eaten 64 of the 100 and actually prepared quite a few of them myself. (I took the liberty of counting alligator as crocodile, which I think is close enough.)
Here are the instructions and the Omnivore's 100 list:
1) Copy this list
2) Bold or Star all the items you’ve eaten.
3) Cross out any items that you would never consider eating.
(Here is what I have eaten - all that is STARRED)

45 things out of 100....hmmm
In the interest of saving space, I was pretty happy that I got to 49/100 having only been in the US, Mexico, and Ecuador. I've crossed nothing out because I'll eat anything once. When I watched Andrew Zimmern's show on cable where he'll eat anything, I had actually eaten everything from his ecuador show... grubs, palm fronds, guinea pig. It was all really tasty!!

Good stuff and easier to post a number than the whole list, which is 69 for me at this point. Don't know how I've missed epoisses (which I'd take any day over gjetost), but it sounds great. Some of them I've had in other dishes (such as paneer), others only in candies (such as durian and prickly pear), and I counted alligator for crocodile too.
So many good ones missed....coming to a menu near you....deep fried snickers, huevos de toros (con los venezolanos!), chicken feet, fried smelt, brisling sardines, boudin, kapusti, paczis, hot tamarind candy, schmaltz, pierogies with skvarky, dampfnudel, aspic, spotted dick or treacle pudding, saganaki, weisswurst, ile flottante, bangers and mash, lime pickles, balti, taramousalata, scungili, brandade de morue, remoulade, kimchee, lutefisk/bacalan, reindeer with lingonberries, pickled herring, tongue, salade de gesiers, geoduck and jellyfish for starters.

I'm not an omnivore (I'm vegetarian) but I read the list, and I just had to ask did this person who made the list actually eat roadkill (#75)? I mean, I just can't imagine somebody actually coming out of their car, in to the street, picking up a bloody decapitated animal, putting in in their car, and taking it home to eat. Sounds like an extremely stinky proccess..
Well it obviously depends on how fresh is a roadkill. :)

Wow...I am sheltered. I've eaten 6 of those things! I've heard of maybe 20 of them! LOL! Here's what I have eaten. Looks like all I eat is junk, but I swear that's not (entirely) true!

- Not a meat eater anymore though <3
I saw that. I've had about half the things on the list, I've never heard of a quarter of them, and most of the other quarter are on my 'ten foot pole' list and I wouldn't eat them if you paid me!
Here are the instructions and the Omnivore's 100 list:
1) Copy this list
2) Bold or Star all the items you’ve eaten.
3) Cross out any items that you would never consider eating.
