Good running shorts?

Quote  |  Reply

I have started running recently, but my running shorts are very uncomfortable.  They ride up in the middle, but I don't know if that is because I have fat thighs or it's just the design of the shorts.  Anyone know of shorts that do not cause this?

I have the same exact problem. Riding up shorts can totally ruin a good run. I just bought a pair of bike shorts from Target, and I've never been more comfortable during my workouts. During the winter months, I usually wear black leggings, but these shorts are great for the hot summer.

I agree, the bike shorts work quite well.  They are body hugging, so they don't ride up.  I get a little self-conscious, so I wear jogging shorts over them.

Run nekkid. ;)

Nike dri fit running shorts are awesome. Loose, built in panty and iPod inside pocket. I find the more constricting type of clothing like bike shorts are great for lifting and, well, cycling but not so much for running.

Bike shorts are okay, but I get hot in those when I run.  I love the pair of shorts I got from Academy sports (I'm sure it's one of their "off" brands because I'm cheap that way) that have the built in panty, a key pocket, and are long enough that I don't get the ride-up effect.   They sound a lot like the Nike ones fitnessgirll talks about above.  Another pair I got from Old Navy is almost as good, but is short enough to ride up a bit.  Sometimes I wear capri-length yoga pants from Target that hit just under the knee, and they work well, too--they have a little more breathing room than bike shorts.

I usually just wear men's running shorts...any brand really, target or walmart or something. or i wear the knee length lighter material sweats. i find those most comfortable (also target/walmart)

My favorite pair of shorts to wear running is a pair of cotton bermuda-style running shorts.  They go to the knee and aren't tight all the way down like bike shorts are, so there is no need to wear another pair of shorts over them.  But they are tight enough to not get in the way of any exercise.  I got mine at Kohl's (tekGear skimmers), but i believe Target has similar ones (semi-fitted).  Here's what I like: http://www.kohls.com/kohlsStore/womens/athlet icapparel/bottoms/PRD~441198/Tek+Gear+Perform ance+Skimmer+Pants.jsp

I wouldn't go with bike shorts...  if you want to go that route, get some tri shorts.  The chamois in it is much lighter and smaller.  Google running Skorts.  They make some really cool running skirts for gals....

Ooh, those tri shorts look nice. For a poor college student like me, though, $6 bike shorts from Target work just fine! haha.

The running skorts are an interesting idea. When I first read your post, wesmckean, I thought that anyone running in a skirt would look like a complete tool...but they actually seem pretty neat! :)

I run in the skorts all the time.... they are airy and feel comfy while doing most exercises.. although I feel kinds funny when doing those thigh machines with them...

I got mine at target when they were on sale for about 15 bucks... definitly worth a try

Make sure the shorts are not cotton, cotton absorbs moisture and sticks to the skin or rides up places.
