Good and tasty appetizer needed!

Quote  |  Reply

I need a good appetizer to make for Thanksgiving. Something for folks to munch on while dinner is being prepared and while watching football  ....... something hot and tasty. Calories don't really matter so much. Any suggestions?

If you want something you can eat....I found a recipie for  fat free ranch dressing. http://www.dlife.com/dLife/diabetic-recipes/8 286/Fat-Free-Ranch-Veggie-Dip.html Serve it up with veggies and/or pita chips. Gaucomole is a good dippy one too.

My favourite app is nice crusty bread with goat's cheese an  d some sort of tart jelly (like red pepper)...mmmm.

Edit....HOT and tasty, my bad.  Hot artichoke dip is super tasty http://www.cookingnook.com/artichoke-dip-reci pe.html.  Or nachos....

Hot in what sense of the word? Spicy or warm? o:

hanky pankies are a huge hit for me

stuffed mushrooms

you could find a recipe for jalepino bites

cheese and crackers

anitpasta tray

cookies :)

take some tortilla wraps and put cream cheese on them, then add cucumber, brocolli florets, shredded carrots and olives, maybe some onion.. then roll it up and cut the roll into 1/4" pieces... very tasty!

Warm but cold would be ok too.

I like Kraft Canada for recipe ideas. The really force their name brand on you, but any replacement is good. Here's the website that links you to Appetizers under 150 cals! :

The mini Florentine cups are so yummy!

Turning to my favourite food blogs, my first suggestion'd be the latest recipe popped up on 101cookbooks:

http://www.101cookbooks.com/archives/vibrant- tasty-green-beans-recipe.html

And in terms of appetizers I have always liked from her blog, http://www.101cookbooks.com/archives/001473.h tml, polenta fries. :D They might be a bit more of a side dish, though.

Beyond that - think in season! You could try pumpkin or squash, or parsnip (or all three!) soup. But there's a few good recipes there that'd be warming and November-y. x]

Nacho platter of some sort is always delish. I also opt for the multi dips with chips. (Warmed spinach cheese dip is AMAZING! Also, chili can even be used for a dip. You can also pair the chips with veggie slices for you, if you want.)

If you really wanna go the high cal route, bacon wrapped mini hotdogs that have been baked are the most freaking delicious appetizer that God placed on this earth. I wish I was scarfing some down right now.

I made mini quiches last year and they were a hit! Made a bacon/cheddar version and a spinich/swiss versian using mini-muffin pans. Very easy to make and I had none left at all!

I've also done swedish meatballs, fruit and cheese plate, and the standard chip and dip which also go over well. I've also done quesdillas that were a huge hit (and easy to make) served with salsa and sour cream - yum!

what about a variety of dippers:

spinach dip w/ carrots, cucmbers, broccoli, cauliflower, peppers

onion dip w/ potato chips- good muncher for those watching the game

mexican dip: put a layer of non-whipped cream cheese on the bottom of a dish-->then add beans and the sauce (Hormiers- im sorry i dont know the exact brand's name)--canned form --> then top it off with shredded cheese --> put it in the oven and let all melt with no "raw" cheese left and serve w/ tortilla chips = amazing!

pigs in a blanket

mini quiche sounds good..

I just made a 7 layer dip Mediterranean style... I made my own hummus (low fat, cut out the oil and added greek yogurt instead).  Then top with lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, black olives and feta cheese.. serve with pita chips

I also saw an appetizer on food network.  Drain rinse a pat very dry a few cans of chick peas, then toast them in a pan on the stove for about 12 min, season with sweet smoked peprika.  They come out crunchy and spicy and warm, yum!  I haven't tried it but it looked yummy.

Mexican Roll Ups!

Chopped Black Olives, Jalapenos, and Red Pepper
Cream Cheese
Sour Cream
Shredded Cheddar

Mix it all up and then roll it all up! They're sooo good. There might me more ingredients, but my recipe book is all the way in the kitchen. :P

If you and your guests like brie, and not everyone does, baked brie is extremely easy.

Preheat the oven to 325

Slice a round of brie in half horizontally.

Place one half of brie in a shallow oven-proof bowl or deeper plate, cut side up. Top with walnuts and maple syrup, or whatever you think would taste good. Place the other half on top of the fillings, cut side down.

Bake for 20-25 minutes, until the cheese starts to get a bit oozy.

Serve with nice crackers or thinly sliced baguette pieces.
