A good time?
If one were wanting to run and WIN a 5K race, what is a good competitive time to aim for finishing it in?
It varies widely from race to race and from age-group to age-group.
Your best bet is to find results from your race in previous years to get an idea of what it'll take to win.
There is win the race outright, and then there is win your age group. Both are well worth striving for. Like flogging said, it all depends who shows up on race day, but something in the 20-22 minute range would make you very competative, and sub-20 is the holy grail for women.
I going to try and aim for 20. I can normally run an 8 mile an hour pace steady, but I can do that with interval sprints the whole time for that short of a run. I think that may round me out to a 6-7 mile an hour average. Hopefully adrenaline will take care of the rest and bring me down the home stretch balls to the wall! I'm so excited! I never really tried to actually win a race before.
BTW...I came in 5th! :-) I'm happy with that...next time it will be first!
