good way to gain?
would eating a large bowl of cereal and a tin of tuna before bed be a good way to put on weight
Only if that means that you are eating more than you burn.
It isn't necessarily what or when - it's how much.
okay thanks very much
it would be a good way to get calories in before bed though i guess
Just be careful because eating a lot right before you go to bed might give you sleep problems or indigestion. Tuna can be a little 'burpy'! A full-fat hot chocolate or malted drink and some toast with butter and jam might be a better snack because the combination of milk (lactose/protein) and toast (carbohydrate) is good for relaxation.
Edited to say... won't mean you gain weight necessarily but it's adding useful calories to get you to your total.
yeah i was thinking in terms of carbs and things that it might help
Again.... 'carbs' don't make you gain weight necessarily, 'calories' do. And if you're thinking that by eating carbohydrates late in the evening you pile on the lbs while you sleep, I'm afraid that's a bit of an old diet myth.
Just keep an eye on that total intake. Plan it in advance so that you're sure you're getting the full amount you need each day. If that includes a late snack of some kind, great...
i think there should be a new thread... ASK GI-JANE!!! you always seem to answer me really well, thank you :D x

nah but i have a deep bowl full to the top with no added sugar or salt swiss muesli with semi skimmed milk as my cereal, is this a high calorie snack do you think? sorry i cant weight it out i havent got the equipment
well if its no added sugar, add sugar. that'l add more calories that will help with the weight gain.
you are not going to have one miraculous meal which - after you eat it, will made you 10lbs heavier. if you really want to gain weight fast stock up on ensure drinks and keep eating. you mentioned about 4k cal sedentary?.... this should do it
Eating right before bed is very important seeing as your body is still burning calories while you are asleep and if you havent eaten for more than an hour and a half before bed time, then your system will look to your reserves in order to obtain the nutrients it needs. So seeing as we want to keep on most of the weight we gain, its beneficial to give your body something else to snack on during that time.
What you eat is up to you. Whatever doesnt make you feel naucious is good enough, just let it be the right balance in between carbohydrates and proteins. If you have been doing lots of phsical activities during the day, then a higher dosage of protein would be ideal seeing as it will help repair the muscle tissues which add to some positive muscle growth (and seeing as muscle mostly expands while resting (ie. sleeping), this is an ideal time to benefit from this).
Most people would recommend something like a glass of milk and a peanut butter sandwich. For a while I myself would drink a pint of milk right before bed with a protein bar or something of the syle... yet recently I cut back on drinking too much seeing as I would wake up in the middle of the night with the urge to go to the bathroom. (which sucked.. but depending on my mood I would sometimes profit from having woken up and I would go have another pint of milk or a glass of grape juice which also has a very high caloric and carb value).
Wrong thread sorry (I can't delete)

its similar to the english fortisip or juice like build up h x
Mix up the biggest milk shake you can tolerate everyday, your choice of flavors...that will put it on in nothing flat. Add a side or two of fish and chips.
Eat a bunch of donuts, candy, burgers, pizza, etc. All the good stuff us people trying to actually drop weight have had to give up. Gaining isn't rocket science so why make it harder than it needs to be.
