Gordon Biersch...I thought is was a salad!

Quote  |  Reply

I went out to lunch with a friend today. I called before hand to get the nutritional info and the store didn't have it. I called corporate, they don't have it and it's not posted online.

I decide I can do this...I order a Hummus and Goat Cheese Salad, hummus on the side. For got dressing on the side so it was heavy. But it is a vinaigrette so I should be okay, right.

Wrong! I entered in the ingredients to the recipe thingy here and it says that stupid salad was 1114 cals! Holly crap...that ends the amount of food for me today! I also had a 500 cal breakfast thinking I was having a salad for lunch!

This is more of a venting than anything else! I learned a valuable lesson, if in doubt...keep it out...of your mouth!Cry

What was in the salad?  The recipe analyzer is often wrong, so it may have not been as bad as you thought.

from your post to my behind...this is an estimate of what the sizes were.

3 cups mixed greens

1/8 cup hummus

1/8 cup goat cheese

3 tbsp diced tomato

1/2 of a 4'' pita, grilled with Italian spices

Not sure how much dressing but I think around 4-5 tbsp vinaigrette

The pita with all of the spices probably had some butter and other various types of things and the goat cheese would be high and vinaigrette can be high if it is a thicker version.  For example, this restaurant that we have in our neighborhood carries a raspberry vinaigrette dressing that you would think would be healthy but is almost 150 calories for a tablespoon so you have to be really careful.  I would probably think the salad was around 600 or so calories instead of the 1100 but I could be wrong.  I would do a search on the salad type and see if you can find something similar.  Olive garden's salads are very high in calories as well.  So sometimes when eating out you have to be extremely careful if you are watching your calories.
I have a call out to the corporate office to find out how many cals are actually in what I consumed. I hope to remove some of the cals for that day. I am eating 1460 a day and because that salad I had more like 1900! I know one day having an issue isn't bad, but it wasn't my first day eating to many cals.

The lovely things that they put on salads can be deadly. Look at Wendy's salads .. they have as much fat and calories as a burger and fries. They taste good but ... I've learned that just cause it's a salad doesn't mean it's a wise choice. Of course I learned the hard way.
I just thought that vinaigrette was automatically low cal. Lesson learned I guess. I'll know for sure tomorrow.
So, I spoke to them today and they do not have any nutritional information on the current menu. They said they are having it evaluated by a third party! Didn't even know you could serve food without knowing the content! I'll just keep my calorie heavy salad on there, not eat at Gordons anymore, and really watch my food from outside of home.
