gound turkey 99% fat free
Hi I bought some ground turkey today that was lean and 99% fat free.
I thought I was a making a healthier choice especially since I made sure to only have one serving which was about 4oz but when I typed it in to my food log it gave it a grade of a D-. I know the cholesterol was 70mg which I guess is high when you consider 300mg to be a highest you should be at for the day. But if it is balanced out with what ever else I am eating that day and I do not have a problem with high cholesterol is it really that bad for you. I was just disappointed in the grade that is all. Thanks!
I noticed the same thing last time I had ground turkey and also thought it was strange. Maybe it has high sodium too? I'm not sure, but a D- seems harsh. I bet ground beef gets a better grade than that!
The grade system on here can be a little off sometimes, 99% fat free ground turkey is very healthy. And you're right, as long as it is balanced out throughout the day it's perfectly fine to eat.
Ya know, I wouldn't worry about the grade. As long as your overall day is balanced and you dont eat tons of colesterol every day, then say *pshhh* to the grade itself.
I can eat a ton of processed crap and get the grade to be an A. The way the food analysis works, is a mystery to me. I'm not that much of a fan of ground turkey, but if its your high fat substitute then keep eating it. Don't shy away :)
I eat 96/4% lean ground beef and it's 150 for 4ozs. That's always an option too, just incase you wanted beef beef some nights.
I'd advise you not to even think about cholesterol... The only thing that intake of cholesterol has been proven to do it cause your hormones to function properly. There is no real evidence of problems caused by reasonable amounts of cholesterol (that is, if you aren't injecting it by the barrelful) and tons of evidence against.
If you feel like it, take a gander at these links, and never count how much cholesterol you're eating again.
