GPS Watch: Worth it?

Quote  |  Reply

Hey all! I am looking into purchasing a GPS watch since my long runs are starting to cover some distance and I'd like to keep track of where and how far I'm going as well as pace, splits and such. I am looking, specifically, at the Garmin 305. Seems to have what I need at the price range I can manage. Just worried about the size.

Any of you guys use a GPS watch? Like it, love it, hate it? Pros/Cons? Is it worth spending the money or should I just stick with my cheapo stopwatch and spend the money on backup shoes? ;)

I have the Garmin 305 and LOVE it.  Used it on 2 marathons and it is very accurate.  Our running groups have tested (unscientificly of course) and the Garmin 305 seems to be one of the most accurate.  I love also having the HR monitor, guess I haven't really come across anything with it I don't like.

Thanks for the feedback! :) I think I'm probably going to order it this weekend or next week (gotta wait for one more paycheck!).

FYI:  runnersworld just did a review on GPS and watch coaches, this one has the Garmin 405 in it, a while back they did the 305 and others.

I have the Garmon 305.  I love using it to map my long trail runs and find it very accurate.  At the Everest Marathon a lot of the runners had either the 305 or 405, I don't remember seeing any other make.
