50 grams of sugar in breakfast alone. Help need advice for low/no sugar foods.
I know it was a huge mistake. I know what the mistake was. But now how can I eat the rest of the day without adding much more sugar? Please give me advice on sugar free or low sugar foods I can eat for the rest of the day. Thanks.
Don't worry about it that much. Just go about a normal day and do better tomorrow.
thanks michachu ............I think you are right. :)
What did you eat? I bet it was delicious.... I hope it was. :)
I still have some sugars, but mostly in the form of honey that I put in my tea two times a day. What I try to avoid are empty calories that don't cater to my nutritional needs or assuage my hunger. It is better to strive for improvement rather than perfection.
But here are some of my favorite breakfast foods:
Special K Red Berry Waffles
Apple Butter
Low sugar instant oatmeal
Sprouted wheat toast with 1/2 tablespoon of peanut butter
Fruit and Yogurt
tina,
those sound delicious especially the Special K Red Berry Waffles but what would you eat on them so that it's not so much sugar?
Oh and jenningermany I ate weight control oatmeal but added 1 oz of honey argh and that with the 2 tsp of sugar and cream in my coffee put me at 48 grams of sugar. Wow it adds up quickly. My oatmeal was sickenly sweet but I ate it anyways arghhhh.
I agree with michachu, don't stress about it too much now.
But in response to some food ideas, I've been eating quaker low sugar apples and cinnamon oatmeal for breakfast, it has 6g of sugar per packet and only 110 calories (+3 grams of protein) It keeps you super full and makes sure your sugar intake isn't so high. (plus it's delicious!!)
If you use fruit you can have a very sugary breakfast...but the good kind of sugar.
Put strawberries or banana on the Red Berry Waffles.
Put fruit in cereal.
You can make your own apple cinnamon oatmeal with regular instant oats, diced apple or unsweetened applesauce and some cinnamon. Then you get the added bonus of fiber!! :)
I agree with the prinzess. Add some real food to your diet! If you are choosing "instant" foods or processed foods (like popular cereals or supposedly healthy Special K waffles), you are not even eating real food!!!
Just eat whole foods for the rest of the day. Fruit, vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins and good fats.
Salad with veggies and avocado or olives or tuna
Whole Wheat pasta with veggies and tomato sauce
Chili with beans and vegetables
Roasted chicken with vegetables and polenta
Have you thought about eating some hardboiled eggs with some wheat toast?
Veggie omlettes? fresh fruit? If you like oatmeal, try instant plain oatmeal and add milk and honey or a packet of splenda.
I think you should stay away from processed foods and eat more wholesome food. It helps keep you full and it's not so heavy on the sugar.
I dono bout you, but eating sugar makes me crave more sugar. I try to stay away as much as possible, unless its fruit.
Thanks everyone. I have to agree, unprocessed is much better.
Hillary I liked your idea of a salad with avacodo or tuna :) sounds yummy.
Lots of great advice here so I feel I don't really need to add much, but I just wanted to say that unsweetened applesauce is really good on waffles (especially if you can make your own whole wheat waffles at home)! A 1/2 cup has roughly the same amount of cals (50) and sugar (12g) as 1TB of maple syrup, but the quantity is 8 times greater (and you can easily use just 1/4 cup applesauce)!

You can even make the pancakes or waffles with the applesauce in it. I haven't had syrup on pancakes ever since I started doing that. 1/2 cup of applesauce and a tsp of cinnamon....BAM! flavored pancakes! :)
