Do you eat this convenient snack at home? Or do you only eat them when you're on the go?
I tend to eat them at home as well :P
cause i love them...
If you don't eat them at home, what else do you eat when you're craving a granola bar at home?
Just outta curiosity, are granola bars healthy in your opinion? Or only certain ones? Or are they ALL unhealthy to you because...?
Treat granola bars like you would any other cookie... not as a 'health food' or a dietary staple. They're a good snack, usually with some nice ingredients but because they're often quite sugary (more than 20g sugar per 100g) they should be enjoyed in moderation.
Thanks :)
I know a great brand of granola bars--expensive, but delicious--they are Cascadian Farm's. The multigrain has 11g of sugar, and my favorite, the harvest berry, has 13g. But the bars larger than regular granola bars. They kick Quaker's butt! :)
I'll have to look into the cascadian farms ones.
Although I do have to recommend Kashi's chewy bars for people looking for all-natural, low sugar bars cause they all have less than 8g of sugar for a 35g bar! (Some types, like PB or Honey Almond flax only have 4g of sugar.... I almost don't believe it actually, cause they taste SO GOOD/sweet)

Which scales to 23g per 100g, which puts them in to sugary category under gi-jane definition. ![]()
^ Thanks UD, you saved me the math. Good to know
I always buy the fiberone pb bars! They taste amazing and are super satisfying. Although super high in sugar unfortunately!
In the context of an overall healthy diet, I don't personally see anything wrong with having a granola bar each day. I have a snack in the afternoon of around 100-200 cals a day- sometimes a protein bar, sometimes yogurt mixed w/ a little high fiber cereal, but it depends and if I am craving something like a granola bar or candy bar, I'll balance the rest of my day accordingly so I have spare calories for something less nutritious.

Yay, my favorite Kashi bars at 4 grams of sugar per 35g puts them OUT of the sugary category under gi-jane's definition ;)
.... if MY math is right :D
I love them, although I tend to only eat them on the go, since I can eat more natural stuff at home like yogurt, frozen fruit, etc. My favorite bars are clif z-bars, attune, luna tea cakes, fiberful bars, and gnu bars. There is a great low calorie bar list on Yummy Diet Food.
Hey just wanted to share... just found a new Kashi bar ,dark chocolate coconut I think? It is SOOOOOO yummy! Just like a mounds candy bar and only 7 grams of sugar! LOVE Kashi so much!
for those of you who suggested alternatives such as cereal with milk/yogurt, do you really find that as delicious/a good substitute for a good granola bar?
amyjo -- mmm that sounds delicious!!! i bet it wont come to canada until years later :( if ever! we JUST got the 'trail mix' one.
