Anyone tried it? Does it work?
crash diets are a waste.. i love grapefruits though.. with a meal.

Crash dieting will do nothing to help you lose weight as the weight will likely come straight back on, and undereating can easily do more damage than good. Honey, the article plainly says that this diet is a hoax, Nothing special in grapefruit, and the average person on it eats 800-1000 calories a day. So definitely, from what I've read in the article you mentioned, STAY AWAY!!!! Particularly because you are a teenager.

So as green tea, acai berries, raisins, chocolate, etc etc. They are ALL crash diets.

You bet it works! Though I prefer the "Stone Diet" version.
You start by soaking a very clean stone in your water supply for any length of time. Just substitute water from that supply for the grapefruit. By substituting the water/grapefruit, you get to add 1000-1500 Calories to your diet, and all you have to do is moderately exercise for 30-60 minutes a day as part of the new combination. Apparently, the "stony" water, in conjunction with exercise causes the pounds to simply melt away (at a rate of .5-2 lbs per week). It works like a charm! ![]()
Oh my goodness! Is this old hoax still around. We all tried it back in the 1960s and it made me sick. I couldn't look at or smell grapefruit for a year afterwards. It's almost as bad as the banana and milk diet (3 bananas and 3 glasses of milk a day for 3 days.)
In my opinion all fad and crash diets are stupid and don't work and usually make you feel like crap. I know - I was dumb enough to try them all.

There are no "magic" foods. I read the article and it pretty much says that, and debunks the whole idea. Stop looking for a magical solution and start making a commitment to long term good nutrition and healthy exercise. That will last you your whole life and you'll never have to diet again.
Listen to the people here who have actually lost weight and are keeping it off, not some wacko idea from a magazine. We've already tried what you are contemplating and we can tell you it doesn't work.

What kind of stone? Pure limestone might leach some minerals into the water, but other types of stone might leach some pretty nasty substances that are a natural part of them. Like lead, radium and arsenic for instance. Read this.
You say it works? Did the weight stay off? I bet it didn't because if it did you wouldn't be here at calorie count, would you? I don't mean to be harsh, but I'm just hate to hear people being encourage others, especially growing teens, to use fad diets in the false hope it will be an easy fix. There is no easy fix.
Here's a really good tip to pass on to your descendants..... If you're offered any kind of eating plan in the format "The (insert food here) Diet" run like the wind. LOL!
You can usefully extend that to "The (insert person or placename here) Diet" I've found as well.

Claire, I think the 'drink stony water' diet was meant to be a joke.....
Reminds me of one about a weary traveller needing food and shelter. He calls on the house of a mean old woman who says he can stay but he isn't getting anything to eat because she's very poor. 'Pity', says the traveller, 'because if you're hard-up you'd have enjoyed my 'Pebble Soup''. The parsimonious old bat is interested because this sounds economical!!!
The traveller places a large pebble in the bottom of the pan and adds some water. He fusses over it and stirs it. Tastes it and announces... 'It's delicious but it would benefit from a few vegetables". So the old woman produces a few vegetables and in they go to the pot. He keeps stirring and tasting and announces 'It's coming along but it could use a beef-bone if you have one'. So she duly obliges. He suggests herbs... she gets herbs. He asks for some pepper and salt... it appears. A few beans... no problem.
Finally they sit and enjoy the soup and the old woman declares it the most remarkable thing. "All this just from a pebble! What a great way to save money" The next day the traveller goes on his way and the old woman looks in the now-empty pot.... and at the bottom is the same old pebble, just as it was.

Sorry clairelaine! GI Jane is right. I was mocking the idea of a "magical food" diet by playing on the old fable of "Stone Soup", but with an alternate side to it. If you look at the "Stony Water Diet", it really boils down to (forgive the pun) increasing your Caloric consumption, exercising 30-60 minutes a day, and drinking lots of water (stony water, in this case). Really nothing more than healthy living. The "Stony Water Diet" really replaces the "magical food" idea with hard work, and a planned diet. You will have to forgive my approach.
But to answer the question of what kind of stone, that is simple. If you cannot find plutonium, then kryptonite works nearly as well. ![]()
