I am considering eating a half of grapefruit before each meal to see if that would increase my weight loss.  I was just wondering if anyone has tried it and if they noticed a difference?  I read that you can also just drink a glass of grapefruit juice.  It would be worth a shot and I do love grapefruit....but i won't mess with the 3-times-a-day thing unless it would show me results.

that might work, but grapefruits always make my stomach upset
I think it's just supposed to be an appetite suppressant..try adding it in slowly and see how it goes
I heard something along those lines, but the person that said it didn't maintain any results shown. It's not some miracle fruit with the magical fix. It's just your overall eating habits and lifestyle that will help you in the end. =-P

But, if it's something that you can add to your lifestyle because you like it that's awesome. Do it with other healthy fruits ect too.

I've tried it. It makes you go to the bathroom alot but I guess that's how it works.
Hm. I thought cranberry juice made you go to the bathroom a lot too. So what's the difference? So does drinking a lot of water...

Just make sure you are not on a statin otherwise it enhances the absorption of the statin and can cause toxicity.

I have tried grapefruit in the past.  I usually eat a whole grapefruit -- everything but the peeling/skin.  I agree with the bathroom comments.  I also think that it has a tendency to turn off your desire to eat.  But moderation is still important.  You will definitely need to maintain your calorie balance and distribution of carbs, protein and fat.  Grapefruit is probably healthier than other things you could be ingesting but it is not a magic bullet.
That's what I was thinking too, Jc.  It's just a much healthier substitute than other things.
I think Grapefruit has pectin in it, which blocks the absorption of, I don't know, fat?  It makes you absorb fewer calories.  I think the effect is pretty minute.  It also potentiates caffiene.  (which is irrelevant, just a tidbit)

I tried it years ago, and do remember it helped me feel full and healthy.  I did eat less.Plus it has lots of vitamin C.  Yes, go with eating instead of drinking.  Try peeling as opposed to eating it with a spoon cut in half.  If you eat the skin it will give you more fiber.  Be careful however if you are taking medication as I have read grapefruit can alter the state of absorption in some medications.  Perhaps check with your doc, if you do.

Happy Grape-fruiting!

Take care.

You have to be careful with grapefruit if you are taking any type of medications.  It has the curious property of magnifying the dosage (short term effect) of many medicines.  Might need to check with your doctor, or at least space your medication taking far away from eating grapefruit.

That said, my favorite grapefruit is the Pummelo.  So sweet and so easy to eat with your fingers - non-messy!
