Is it just me or does grease dripping of food gross you out?

Quote  |  Reply

LOL...........Okay i'm morbidly obese but I have never cared for fat drenched foods. I was watching a cooking show today and was mortified by this fried chicken wings being brought out of the fryer dripping with fat and grease and then she was not done..........she was making a barbeque sauce to go on the already fried chicken.

*grabs my heart and moans lol

Does fat dripping off food gross anyone out like it does me? Imagine the feel on your lips after you eat that.

I was hungry but now i'm not sure lol

*EDIT...changed title to say grease dripping off food

I hate fat drenched/dripping food as well. I'm always the one taking a bunch of napkins trying to absorb some of the grease off. Pizza seems to have a habit of having an absurd amount of grease on it too.

The feeling of the grease on your lips is icky >_<.

You're definitely not alone in thinking this.

Hahahah I do the same thing to pizza how funny.

Oh, absolutely!  Ever since I was a little kid, I would always have to "degrease" anything fried/fatty with paper towels before I could eat it.

yup ditto here, on both the grossing out AND the napkins, hehehe. There are numerous cooking shows that actually gross me out like that, for example Paula Deen with her sticks of butter everywhere, yuuukkkkk, I think even the way she talks drips grease, so I can't even stand listening to her, LOL. I think it is very good that I think this way though, proof that my mindset is totally focussed on eating healthy!!! YAY for us !!!

Oh I so know what you mean. Paula grosses me out too with all that butter and I agree with the way she talks lol..............I still watch her anyways. I'm not sure why as it bugs me. I always think wow I wonder if she really eats all that crap and why she's not 600 lbs if she does.

I completely agree! even if I only take 2 of my friend's french fries at lunch, I'll still feel the grease on my lips for the rest of the afternoon! bleck.

I always blot my pizza.

I have to agree also. Pizza, gyros and cal-zones always have way too much grease. It seems like you're eating the pan that they were cooked on lol. As much as I like eating those foods from time to time, I wished it didn't come with so much grease. It's all just a big mess.

I WISH it grossed me out.  Nope, sadly it only grosses me out for a few foods.  My dad's mac and cheese is one.  On the other hand,  just thinking about a drippy Philly cheesesteak makes my mouth water.   Sad, but true.

even back when i was obese, i still hated grease dripping off my food.

eerica? Were you ever obese? I have always thought you were thin. Maybe i'm wrong sorry.

ehh, i actually sort of like the grease on pizza, it tastes really good to me, lol.  the grease in french fries sort of gets me though.

awww pixie...that's not good hon. I guess we each have different taste buds but it's so much easier for me (in my opinion) to not like grease so I don't desire those foods.

Hey what about donuts from a donut shop. Just the smell of that grease really makes me sick. I can eat the powdered ones from the grocery store but those from the donut shop are really really gross! LOL unless it's glazed those aren't so bad.

I have a Dunkin' Donuts by my house (actually, I have two haha) and sometimes in the morning, you can smell it in the air. I prefer the smell of doughnut grease to that of fast food places though. The smell of stuff cooking tends to bother me >_<.

Like eerica, I also hated grease dripping off my food even when I was obese.

Whoa. We are so not on the same page here kindal. Not that I'm into purposely clogging my arteries, and baked chicken, fries etc have their place in more nourishing homemade meals, but man. Give me fries, chicken. okra right out of the grease please! And put mayo on the bun before you load up my cheesesteak!

And don't even get me started on doughnuts. I just got back from a doughnut making party at a chef friends' house at which the feature was a sizzling vat of the rendered fat from a grass fed cow. Organic homemade maple glazed doughnut with CRISPY BACON SPRINKLES anyone??? YES PLEASE!!!

Ok so I think it is gross when butter, etc is dripping off unhealthy foods but... I ADORE FAT dripping off Salmon or Grass-fed meats! I am such a lover of the healthy fat, it is quite ridiculous! ha ha!

Well, it all comes down to the same thing in the end.  I'm sure we all have foods that we have to turn our backs on (or severely limit).  For some it'll be the sweet stuff, for some it'll be the greasy fried stuff.  I'm sure those foods will always be a temptation, but I just have to stick with it.

I really think many of these foods (especially the sweet and fried ones) have an addictive quality.  Once I focus on eating healthier for a while, it seems to get them out of my system and I don't crave them anymore.   I mean, I'll ALWAYS think they're delicious, but the desire isn't the same.

I can't stand grease too! X_x I like the taste of donuts but looking at the preparation makes me ill.

Even before my ED came about, I hated when things were SO greasy that they had a sheen of oil on them that wasn't, y'know, meant to be there. Difference between a salad dressing and a slice of pizza with a gloss on it. Or if it dripped. Though, similarly, if fat congealed on something (like a stew) it'd gross me out. But then, anything not pleasant in appearance can be offputting.

The one that really surprised me was a day-old doughnut that I had logged calories for left a cold coagulated film in my mouth after two bites.  I couldn't finish it.  Cry  I never realized just how greasy a doughnut was until I started eating healthier!  One good thing came about that though.  I could care less if I have another doughnut again.  At least right now-I've been known to give foods a second chance! Surprised

pixie...you are so right hon. I am a sweet eater...well use to be. I also use to love taco bell but not anymore. I don't even crave that stuff for the most part. Now I crave hot (temperature) foods for some reason.

I think our taste buds will change over time when we start eating healthier. Good Luck.
