Great breakfast

Quote  |  Reply
OK, so I came up with this breakfast recipe and tried it this morning.  It was so awesome I just had to share it.  Tastes like something you'd get at Denny's or something.  What I did was, I took two slices of bread (I used Nature's Own Whole Wheat--50 cals a slice), but you could do it with a lower-cal bread if you want.)  I dipped each slice in a mixture of one egg white, a tablespoon of milk, and a pinch of cinnamon.  Then I "fried" them in a little cooking spray, and spread one slice with a tablespoon of fat free cream cheese (15 cals a tbsp).  Then I put 1/4 cup sliced bananas on top of that, put the other piece of bread on top, topped with 2 tbsp light maple syrup and one packet of Splenda.  Voila!  Banana-cream-cheese-stuffed French toast.  Tasted amazing--gooey, sweet, like a dessert.  Only 236 calories and a little over 2 grams of fat.  Not bad, not bad at all!  I just felt like sharing with all my fellow breakfast enthusiasts out there!

My mouth started watering while reading that... mmmmm
I do about the same recipe for French toast every now and then, and it's so delicious. Except instead of syrup, I use cool whip free and or microwaved berries (it gets all juicy like a syrup!). Just a couple suggestions for toppings lower in calories. :D Two slices comes out to be about 130 calories and over 10g protein. Pretty good!
Yum.  Both suggestions sound great.  I am tagging this and may try it in the morning 8)
Similar to what I had the other morning. I also added vanilla and splenda, cos i wanted it sweet and served with defrosted berries and a little bit of sweet yogurt. I love brekkie too. hence why my blog, is dedecaited to photos and recipies of low-cal/healthy (when its not low-cal cheesecake PORRIDGE!!! Or skinny french toast) breakkies mainly, tho I do do a bit of dorm cooking.
That sounds oo yummy tho. The bananas and cream cheese. So tempted to try it next weekend.
Do you mind if I try your recipe (change it a little to suit me) in a few weeks, take a photo and post it on my blog. I promise to link to you and credit you. But I find a picture always expresses the goodness of it better! The toehr thing is I dont have low cal bread, so I dont get 2 whole slices :( Plus I dont have mayple syrup - I'll use berry syrup I make myself, or honey (and write down the cals if you used used your gerat idea)
Was it messy? mine was!@! You can tell from the pictures on my blog (and the stains on the floor) but its soooo good, hey
Also I micorwave mine after i toated it and it puffed up. i dont have a fry pan so I used a mini saucepan first time, and a sanwhcih press the second time, you can see on blog mini-spoons
Feel free to post it on your blog red_herring!
Nature's Own Whole Wheat is some AWESOME bread for only 50 calories per slice (and no sugar!)

Breakfast is very important to me since I get up at 3:00 AM to go to the gym. (I know; my hubby says I'm insane!) It's wisest to eat the most calories in the AM since you can work them off all day.

I'll definitely be getting some 'diet' cream cheese -- sounds great!
That sounds wonderful....I will be trying it this weekend.

How long did you stay satisfied until?  It sounds exquisite, and I may just try it tomorrow for my 7am breakfast...but it must be enough to last me until 12 or 1...What do you think?
