Great Breakfast with Nutella

Quote  |  Reply

So here are two variations of a breakfast I have been having this week.

1 tablespoon of nutella

50 grams of sliced frozen banana

100 grams of sliced frozen straberries.

1 LaTortilla factory Tortilla

Spread Nutella on a tortilla, put sliced fruits and wrap it like a burrito.

A slightly different combination is to replace tortilla with 1 serving of none fat cottage cheese and mix everything together.

The whole thing comes out to around 250-300 calories.

this would sound good if it was, um, a dessert

but as a meal? ..ehm no.

where's the protein?

I think I'd be hungry in an hour after eating this... it's all sugar. Nutella is like 70% refined sugar... and yes the sugar in fruit is "natural" but it is still sugar none-the-less.

I don't know what a LaTortilla is... but I bet it adds more carbs.

You need a mixture of complex carbs, fiber, protein, and fats in the morning to get your metabolism off to a good start and keep you satisfied till your next meal.

A better option would be Natural Peanut or Almond Butter on a whole wheat wrap with half a banana... or sliced strawberries in greek yogurt or cottage chesse, topped with flax seeds and chopped nuts... or oatmeal with egg whites and a tablespoon of peanut butter and unsweetenened cocoa (kinda like nutella)

The tortilla has 8 grams of protein and 12 grams of fiber. Nutella adds another 1.5g of protein and 5.4g of fat. Besides I am going for carby breakfast. Wink

Anyway today I had two tablespoons of Hazelnut spread (Nutella like), on LaTortilla factory tortilla with sliced frozen peach. Then three hours later I had a frozen banana with another two tablespoons of the Hazelnut spread on it. It was sooo delicious!

UD, your recipes are dangerousLaughing

do you know that I am trying to avoid buying Nutella because I heard it is soooooo good. I admire your ability of controlling your portions.

Nutella is amazzzzing :D

However, I really don't think of it as a nut spread. There are not huge amounts of nuts in it, and the main ingredients are sugar and fat! It's yummy, but if I 4 tabsp a day like that I'd be giving my ass its own post code. Gimme almond butter any day :D

Well fist I bought Nutella, then after I ran out I bought the hazelnut spread from Whole Foods.

There is nothing wrong with Fat, and 4 tablespoons are around 320 Calories. Of course one needs to be careful with the "table spoon" measurements.

P.S. Well to be fair I did do a two hour ride in between. Wink So hazelnut spread with banana was my "recovery" food.

true, there is nothing wrong with fat, as long as it is good fat.

I'm more concerned with the refined sugar in the Nutella then the fat content... if it was just hazelnut butter with cocoa, it would be super healthy (or even sweetened with stevia, or some agave nectar), but of coarse they have to lessen the nutritional value by adding refined sugar so that it's practically 60% sugar in each tbsp

taste good... yes.

good for you... not so much.

you should replace the nutella with natural almond/peanut/hazelnut/cashew butter.. and if you can find RAW nut butters, all the better! Plus they taste great on their own without all the added sugar

Again I am going for carby breakfast that is digested fast, so refined sugar is just fine. Besides not everything needs to be about nutrition, it is OK to enjoy food that is not 100% perfect. Undecided

Agreed! I think this breakfast sounds delicious. It isn't worth it if we can't enjoy something like Nutella just because there are healthier choices out there. There's always going to be something healthier, might as well pick the choices that are best for us.

Maybe he just wants a treat and doesn't want to have to worry about every little health detail. At Nutella is non-hydrogenated. A tablespoon will NOT kill you. *gasp* It might not even hurt a wee bit!

Knowing your history with EDs, maybe you should keep it to yourself. Just because you have something that's not 100% "healthy" once and a while doesn't mean that your overall diet is unhealthy or bad.

thats great that you know how to include nutella in your breakfast without your meal being totally non-nutritious and horrific.. i love nutella but i have to stay away because i can't help myself from eating more than a tablespoon

Thanks for the replies everyone. Smile
