Great being 55!

Quote  |  Reply

Who else likes being a 50+ person?  I know I do.  Oh yes I do still worry about appearance or I wouldn't be trying to lose weight.  And even though I say I want to lose because I know it is the healthy thing to do the underlying reason is appearance.  Don't we all want to look and feel our best?  I know who I am though and most (90%) of the time I really like who I am.  I know that I like a challenge and work well under pressure.  I love my children and grandchildren but I would rather spend my time with adult friends.  I like my job but I also know that I could be very happy as a retired person.  (Maybe when I am 62 I will retire.)  I also know that as enjoyable as traveling can be I would much prefer staying in my own home.  Those are just a very few of the things that I know about myself.  I may have known these things when I was younger but thought I should be different.  Now I accept who I am.  That is nice!

I too am 55yrs. old and so far I am happy with myself except for the weight problem. My dghtr. got me started in recording my calories and even praised me how well I was doing. Either of my children are married so I guess I have some time to get ready for that great day. I still work I am a RN and work 12hrs a day 3 days a week and some days I am just exhausted so I have a problem working out some days. But I just wish the positive would show up on  the scales. I do feel better since cutting back on my food intake. But I really will feel better when it gets warmerCool

take care,

Pauline

Jofly,

Remember this diet from the Richard Simmons days? I think it was the wheel a meal or deal a meal plan that was advertised on tv for awhile. I never bought it, but a friend of mine did. She lost weight for awhile. . . . but it wasn't a plan for life.

Hi Everyone,

I love being 53. Can't wait to be 70.

When I was little, my Grandmother told me that once you are 70 you can say whatever you want!

My Mom gets to do that now and is enjoying every bit of it.

I am still too young.

I plan to be an outspoken but slender old lady.

Hello there everyone !

So grateful to be this age and healthy. I do believe that genetics plays a significant part of how we age, although equally important, I have learned, is your attitude to stresses, problems. Taking things unnecessarily hard creates wrinkles and poor health, I'm sure.

I don't think my body has changed much since I was in my 20's ( really!) despite menopause. I didn't really have any menopausal symptoms, have almost no gray hair. The only thing that bothers me are jelly inner thighs I simply cannot shift, no matter what.

Also, I don't think I could ever "retire". When you stop being productive, creative ( and getting paid for it) it's one foot in the grave, for sure. I plan to retire when they place me in the casket !

Good luck to everyone with losing weight and feeling great!

I don't mind being 54, though I tell everyone I am 21 and holding. And will stay 21 as long as there is heavy makeup and hair dye. Wink I started turning gray in my late 20's... and at one time I actually went "natural" of course someone at the pharmacy asked if I wanted the senior discount (I was in my 30's) so I went straight to the hair dye aisle and it has been my best friend ever since! :-)

To tell you the truth I think I may be a little immature for my physical age. Most of my friends are in their 20's and 30's and they keep telling me I don't act my age... whatever that means. One friend told me recently it is because I am grounded and they can be themselves with me.. that I don't pass judgement. I am not sure that has a thing to do with age... but I will take whatever I can get! Laughing
