Any great TEMPEH recipes?
I normally stick with tofu but I figured I would branch out a little so I recently bought some tempeh. Now I'm looking for inspiration!. I have tried it before but I just grilled it and stuck it in a burger... not so exciting.
I already searched a few of my favourite veg blogs and didn't see anything too striking. Any input?
I'll get the ball rolling on my own post... I just found this one for Jerked Tempeh: http://blog.vegcooking.com/2008/04/jamaican_j erkspiced_tempeh_nug.php
Tempeh Rubens.
I don't have a recipe on hand, google :)
Instead of BLT, tempeh lettuce and tomato is good too.
I do the same thing with tempeh as I do with tofu in a stir fry. goes nice with pineapple chunks, soy, grated ginger, siracha chili sauce...
ladies, what is tempeh? I have never tried it before? what about the nutriontional benefits? is it like tofu?
Tempeh Tamale Pie!
Crumble and saute Tempeh in a little flavorless oil until getting a bit of color.
Add a chopped onion and bell pepper, saute 5 minutes, add garlic, ground cumin, salt and chili powder, cook another minute, add a can of diced tomato (I like the fire-roasted ones from Muir Glen), a can of your favorite beans. (just a rough idea...use whatever you like...corn, poblano peppers, tomatillos, etc...)
Simmer 15 minutes and in the meantime, Bring 4 C. water to a boil, season with salt and pour in 1 C. polenta. Stir regularly, lowering the heat if it sputters, until creamy (about 3 minutes). Stir in 1 C. grated cheese to melt if you like.
Pour tempeh mix into a casserole dish and top with the polenta. Cover and bake 30 minutes at 350. Then uncover and bake 10 min more. Viola!

Thanks all! I don't like sauerkraut so I'll pass on the reubens :)
I made the jerked tempeh a few nights ago and it was good.. very spicy! I think I might try that glaze next time. I've never made polenta before but I've been meaning to attempt it!

This recipe calls to make cole slaw to put on top of the sandwich, you can omit that if you want to. I didn't make that part as called for but rather bought the ready shredded cabbage mix and added the light version cole slaw dressing in the produce department. It was yummy!
Bar-B-Que Tempeh! Crumble and cook as you normally would then mix in your favorite barbque sauce and place between a toasted bun. So delicous. First recipie I tried when I discovered tempeh: http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Barbeque-Tempeh- Sandwiches/Detail.aspx
