Can Green Tea actually make you loose weight?

Quote  |  Reply

I heard from various sources, that drinking green tea every day can actually make you loose weight.  How true is this, does anybody out there know it it works, of course it doesn't seem likely to loose weight if you don't excercise, and eat healthy, but still....? What are your thoughts of this?

If you google it, alot of sources will tell you that. It's true it can help speed up your metabolism a little, but its not going to be miracle weightloss or anything.  I recall somewhere saying it can help you lose around 8 more pounds a year by drinking 2 cups of tea daily? I'm not sure though..it wouldn't hurt to do it though, tea has alot of health benefits :)

I think it has more to do with what you're not drinking when you're drinking the tea (like sugary sodas) -- think about it, if you drink two cups of green tea a day instead of having two sodas ... that's about 400 calories you're not consuming! Tongue out

I agree. I have three cups of green tea a day but my weight loss id from a total lifestyle change of better food and lots of exercise. And....don't drink commercial green tea without reading the label. Many drinks have little green tea yet sugar and other stuff.

This older couple I know ( in their 60's or 70's) told me they feel more energy the days they drink it and can stay awake longer ; they make sure to drink it days they go to parties. And my mother and grandmother say they noticed me loose alot of weight when i was drinking it, but then again every day all i had were ham, cheese, crackers, and green tea.

Green Tea is a great antioxidant.  Drink the decaf later in the day.  Of course more calories burned than taken in will lose the weight.

I have noticed it helps reduce my sugar cravings though, and if you are drinking it instead of sodas, and other caloric drinks then you will be taking on less calories.

Try to get the organic green tea (loose tea leaves best), if available, and stay away from the bottled premade stuff.

Oh and if you don't want to drink the tea, green tea supplements are available in the vitamin section.

I wouldn't rely on it as a weight loss "pill" and not do anything like eating a healthy diet & exercising. Yes, add it to your life style as a healthy additive because it has tons of healthful properties but relying on it alone as a weight loss "drug" is not the answer at all.

I replaced soda and sugary, creamy coffee with green tee and a little honey.  So, I drink less calories in general, and it is supposed to raise my metabolism, a little.  So between those two things, it can help.  I don't reccomend it as a supplemental pill though...
