Green Tea buying on the web
I want to buy some Green Tea for infusing instead of bags. Figured I would buy on the web. Any suggestions? Of sites? Of favorite brands?
Lupicia Tea (http://www.lupiciausa.com/) has some very nice teas, some of them quite high-end. They have blends, single-plantation teas, flavored teas, and matcha, as well as black, oolong, and herbal teas. Their website also has lots of good information about tea. I tend to prefer Japanese green teas over Chinese ones--the Japanese tend to steam their tea, which preserves lots of the aromatic, herbal, floral qualities of the leaf, wheras the Chinese usually process green tea by heating it in a pan or wok, which gives it a "toastier," less-aromatic flavor. (Though if you like that flavor, I'd recommend tracking down a good Gunpowder green.)
One of my favorites from Lupicia is Gyokuro "Pine Breeze," which has a delicate sweet flavor. Gyokuro is a kind of Japanese green tea, processed in such a way that it It's pricey, but I usually infuse each batch of leaves 2-3 times. Sencha is another variety of Japanese green tea, not quite as delicate as Gyokuro, but still tasty. I also like genmaicha, which is green tea mixed with toasted rice. It's very satisfying when I'm hungry, but don't want to spoil my appetite for dinner or go over my alloted calories for the day. It's also not as expensive, so it's a good everyday tea.
Another place I'd recommend is Teavana (http://www.teavana.com/). I know they've had a store in the Prudential Center in Boston for a long time, and I've recently seen them expanding into upscale malls in other parts of the country as well. They emphasize flavored teas, which are lots of fun. I particularly like 9 Treasures and Emerald Princess, both of which are flavored with fruit. If you take sugar in your tea, you could probably get away with less than usual due to the fruity aromas.
I hope this is helpful! If you want to know anything else about tea, please ask. I like to think of myself as a tea connoisseur (connoisseuse?), and I've done a ton of research on tea and tea production for a term paper on tea that I wrote last semester.
you can buy green tea at any asian market thats around you ... (i hate buying things off the web .. never know if you can trust it) .. i buy mine at superstore (has decent asian and indian selection) or TNT market (depending on which city i am in .. i live in Canada so i don't know American markets) .. but the stuff i buy from the markets here is called "UJInoTSUYU" japanese green tea ... its a loose tea so you would may want to pick up a strainer or a small spice ball, or just let the tea sit at the bottom of your cup (your choice) ...
