I hear a lot of talk on here about green tea. What do you like about it? How has it helped you?

Thanks Afauvel!  I will try to brew a lighter version of it.  I bought a whole box and hated to not be able to drink it.  Can someone tell me about how long to boil it.

I have tried, really tried, to like green tea, but it still tastes like grass soup to me.

I used to feel like that about green tea (and I love regular tea), but I got to love it when I got to try well-prepared green tea. If you want to get used to drinking green tea, try drinking oolong tea, which is a cross between green and black teas...A very great brand to try is YamaMotoYama. This Japanese tea company has a great oolong blend, as well as ton of great japanese green tea varieties, such as green tea with popcorn rice. Give it a try, I used to be like you, but now I am hooked. Like all teas, green tea taste has a lot to do with quality, and bad quality green tea tastes just awful.

I'm hardcore about quality for my tea.  I order all my teas: http://www.estatetea.com/ and bascially only drink loose leaf tea.

I find that when you have really nice loose tea, you can make it strong without it being bitter or sour, like bagged teas sometimes do.

I live a die by white teas too.  I'm not sure about the health benefits, but I drink plain tea when I could choose a sugary drink, or fatty snack, so I guess it's good for my weight loss.  And the caffeine in tea is different than in coffee or soda, it's more easily disgested and has a more slow-release than other caffeines, hence no crash.

PS A cup of green tea has more caffeine than a cup of coffee or a can of pop or any other tea...

Natashik - I totally HATE the popcorn ones....it's so funny what some people love and some people really don't....

I tend to put the water in the cup/pot and then add the tea, rather than pouring the boiling water onto the bag/leaves.  Leave for 2 mins and remove.  You can then play around with the timing...if it's still too strong then try for 1 min 30 next time.  I started drinking green tea like this because I found the taste a little sour, but now I'm so used to it I can barely taste the green tea if it hasn't stewed for 5 mins!!
