Green Tea

Quote  |  Reply

I have been reading that green tea extract is a good thing for weight loss.   Anyone have any thoughts?  Also,  what form does this come in?  Pills/Liquid??

I drink green tea a few times per day. I'm not sure if it actually helps you burn more calories or anything, but it does make me feel fuller.

In general, weight loss pills are a bad idea, but I'm not sure about green tea pills. They're probably more expensive than just drinking the tea though.

I can't drink tea.  Hate the taste.  So I am stuck with the pills.

Green tea is a great antioxidant.  I think it is marketed as "weight loss" to sell more.  I don't think it helps "loose weight" (the only thing that will do that is more calories burned than taken in) but I have noticed my appetite is more controlled when I drink the green tea (or take the supplement).  I suggest take the supplement with food with breakfast and or lunch, you may want to avoid it at dinner (because of the caffeine).

I agree with starrkate stay clear of "weight loss pills"..............green tea vitamins can be found in the vitamin section.  I think they also have "on the go" green tea powder packs, you put it in your water.

You may also want to try another antioxidant (also helps appeitite) Acai berry.  It comes in juices and capsule vitamins as well as powder.

I know that some people have intolerances, but you've said you don't like the taste of green tea. I think that perhaps you've not tried the right kind, because I think there are several dozen (if not hundresds) of varieties of green tea.

Indeed, I understand disliking the taste if you tried one of the more traditional varieties of green tea; in my opinion, many matchas and senchas taste like dirt and grass clippings! But I'm no expert, and certainly not a connoisseur.

Some green teas are more earthy while others are floral, and still others have been flavored with fruit. Also, allowing them to steep too long or too short can produce adverse tastes. Often over-steeped teas are bitter.

I think you should consider giving green tea another chance. Maybe buy a sampler of green teas from Republic of Tea, or Stash, or another brand. Maybe take a friend with you who likes green tea, and go to a tea house or a tea shop or a cafe with a good selection of green tea.  Ask questions of the employees there, do a round of taste-testing, and try to keep an open mind.

I guess if you're still disliking green tea after that, you could try white tea -- it's very mild and also full of antioxidants, with many fruity flavors. Good luck!

What about flavorings? I want to try green tea too, but I live in the south and recently cut sweet tea from my diet. I want to try adding honey perhaps? I hate artifical sweetners I tried. I have not yet tried raw sugar. Anyone else have good ideas??

Trader Joe's has a blueberry green tea that is delicious. I put a little sugar in it, but it has a lot of taste on it's own. I definitely recommend if you have one in your area.

My mother was one of those who "don't like the taste" of green tea. I personally have grown to like it. One day I brought her a eucalyptus and mint flavored one when she was sick and she took one sip and was like "This is pretty good". I would say pick a flavor you like. I personally like jasmine or lemon grass with honey. Warm or cold...they taste nice.

I never used to like the taste of green tea...ugh, I thought it was bitter and gross, but now I just love it...I just kept on drinking it (always without sweetener) and now I drink 2-4 mugs a day...almost not functioning without it...lol. I really like it now.

I read somewhere that green tea (I forget if it was one mug or more) burned about 87 calories a day, drinking it conisitently...so not that much, but hey! Every bit helps. :)

Maybe just keep on with it...and you'll change and like it...

I'm addicted to green tea!If you say you don't like the taste, try loose leaf green tea, there are lots of different kinds. Yes, there are flavored ones out there, but I like the Chinese White Monkey, (not as expensive as Green Monkey) or a good Oolong. I drink it all day, and have totally kicked coffee. Don't leave the leaves in for more than a minute and a half or you get a bitter mess.

try adding a little cinnamon to the tea..tastes gud !!
