Green tea makes me feel sick

Quote  |  Reply
Has anyone ever experienced this?  When I drink it I get nauseated about 20 min later.  I really want to keep drinking it for the health benefits but ughhhh.... I feel yucky.  Any ideas about how to stop this?

Me, I get sick almost instantly. Have you tried white tea? Really the same health benefits just a bit easier on the stomach. There are also black/green blends that help some people.
I get sick too..if I drink it plain. Try putting some light vanilla soymilk and a tsp of REAL sugar in it..that should help a lot.
Hmm that is odd. May have to have a chat to a doctor. Have you tried normal tea? It still has some benefits, and if you can stomach it plain, maybe you can move along to, say chammomile tea or something. Not too sure.
There are other types of teas - jasmine, china black, although not as good as green, they still have benefits
It makes me sick too, but other than trying to force myself to drink it, I just don't. You won't keep drinking it for the rest of your life if it makes you feel sick anyway.

I am all for lifestyle changes, dieting, whatever you want to call it. However, I made a deal with myself that I would not force myself to eat or drink anything that I did not like.
I get a little sick from green tea when I've already had a few cups during the day.  I drink it pretty much constantly at work all day.  I also used to get EXTREMEMLY nauseous and my heart would race from the One-A-Day Weight Smart- and that has green tea extract in it.  Maybe a side effect of some of the chemicals in green tea/extract?

I never had a problem with green tea until one day I drank it & almost spit it out cos it suddenly tasted so bad. Then I discovered I was pregnant! It also explained the insane cravings I had for sauteed beef slices & instant noodles (aka. cup noodles / pot noodles) at the very same time.............I was probably lacking in iron & sodium!!
that is so strange.  i've never heard of that happening to anyone.  judging from the response it happens to quite a few people apparently.

i drink moroccan mint tea like a mamojam (we're talking about 6 cups everyday).  i think i might die if i one day my body doesn't like it anymore.

dude, don't drink the tea if it's making you sick.  if you can't keep it down you're not getting any health benefits anyway.

It's most likely the tannens - which will be in black tea as well. Don't drink it on an empty stomach and if it still bothers you, give it up.
Green Tea makes me sick, too. I love the taste, though, which is why I keep drinking it (as well as for the health benefits). It also actually curbs my appetite for a few hours as a result. I usually take 8 Green Tea capsules and I drink 2 cups of hot Green Tea a day to help keep my caloric intake down. It kind of gives me a slight headache and makes my stomach feel full and I get kind of nauseous as well. The headache passes quickly, but my appetite remains curbed.

Very strange...
this happened to me last year... very embarrassing because i actually had to leave the lecture room to vomit.  i drank it with my breakfast in the morning because my mom swears by it and abotu 30 min later i was in class and had to bound up 50 steps in front of 300 people in order to make it to the bathroom to throw up what looked and felt like a gallon of water... gross... so.. i did research... apparently deaf green tea is easier on your belly and also white tea is the new green tea of this year... and it is MUCH easier on your stomach and i find tastier too... tazo berry blossom white tea is my favorite.... also, if you still keep getting sick try to take green tea capsules... they have just as many health benefits ...
I am drinking white tea at the moment and it is said to contain more anti oxidants than green and other teas.  It is a much milder flavour ( I had to add blackcurrant cordial to green tea) and I can drink it plain.  I've only been drinking it for 2 days but my friend says she can have a cup instead of a meal its that good for curbing hunger - thinking about it I have just had a cup with my bowl of porridge and I am more stuffed than usual.

Anyway don't think I'm saying you should use is for the hunger suppressing qualities but for the antioxidant qualities - I'm all for a healthy balanced diets of 1200cals+ and regular exercise!

I don't really like plain green tea all that much, but there are so many varieties of flavours of green tea out there that I enjoy. I wonder if they would make you sick?

Right now I love earl grey, jasmine and pomegranate flavours, and there are so many yet I want to try.

And now I want to try white tea as well! Sounds interesting that it has more antioxidants and a more milder flavour. I will have to check it out!
just don't drink it iff you don't like it! i don't like it either. and i tried green tea with POM tea in it, yuck. i felt disgusting. you can get nutrients & antioxidants from other things. it's a waste of time to drink something you don't like everyday, since it's always gonna be your body and though it has some health benefits, it's not really gonna help you feel better if it makes you feel sick.

i used to have problems like that. i'd eat/drink something that i hated and think, "well, it'll be better for me in the long run". but honestly it's not worth it and i'd just keep on eating/drinking it thinking in the end i'd feel better, but i HATED it. it was an ongoing cycle and i just stopped cold turkey eventually. it's not like anyone would look down on me or notice if i didn't drink it anyway.
Certain brands make me sick. The one at Starbucks does. Lypton does not.

In the past all teas have made me ill and give me awful heartburn after a while.

This past week I just started drinking Tazo BerryBlossom White Tea and am happy to report I have had no illness from it.  It is so nice to be able to drink tea again.  I have one cup a day, sometimes hot, sometimes cold with 2 splendas.  It is indeed refreshing.

I used to be able to drink green tea and feel fine..now almost right after I finish my cup I run to the bathroom to throw it up.  I dont drink it anymore because of it, and am surprised to see how many other people this happens to as well..makes me feel a bit better.  I feel kind of the same way after only 2 cups of coffee.. I feel depressed weak , my brain is fogged, bery nauseated! Very weird..anyone else feel ths way after only 2 cups of coffee?
I like it..

plus it helps speed up your metabolism!!! <3
i think you only get sick if u drink it at the wrong times..

i read somewhere dont drink wen u are consuming a meal otherwise the green tea will absorb all the iron u are eatting leaving you fatigued.

also dont drink on an empty stomach (such as wen you first wake up) or else u'll feel sick.

Oohhh... interesting. I usually do have it in the mornings... sometimes in the afternoon, but no matter when I always feel sick..I feel like I overdosed on coffee today! I should be in bed right now but I am wide awake ! I only had 2 coffees which is really weird.. sometimes i have 3 and i feel fine...The only thing I can thihk of is that I drank the 2nd cup kind of fast?? I guess it's a question for the doc !
I get nauseous if I drink it too fast, but sipping is good.
