Lately I've been hearing a lot about green tes helping your body metabolize nutrients, but I wasn't sure if it was actually true.  I just bought a new multivitamin that is supposed to have green tea extract in it and help with weight loss... does anyone know if it works?

I doubt very much it if will help. I am not a believer in supplements to lose weight. I think if you drank a cup of hot green tea that would give you more benefits than the supplement. The jury is still out on whether green tea helps boast the metabolism. But I think drinking a cup would help because you would get all those great antioxidants that are very good for you.

The only proven way to lose weight is to count calories and burn more calories than you consuming. Above all the main goal should always be becoming more healthy, not to become thin.

My advice is don't waste money on supplements that make promises about weight loss; save you cash for a new pair of jeans or shoes.

Just my opinion :)
Green has many benefits, it's got lots of antioxydents. I drink a few cups a day, it has caffeen so be carefull. But green tea is a great appetite supresent. I love green tea.
It sure will.  All things being relative of course.....if you're eating healthy and leading a healthy life style adding green tea will enhance the process.  Here is a link to a great article about how to lose weight through healthy eating and drinking green tea, enjoy :)

*takes big slurpy sip of green tea*  Cheers!

I like to have a cup of green tea in the morning. I've heard it suggested that it's good to drink warm water in the morning anyway for some reason - wakes up the body?? Don't hold me to that!!

These are my reasons for drinking it:

  • It's comforting to have something warm in the morning
  • You get a cup of water to add to your 8/9 glasses a day
  • It's delish!
  • I feel good, like I'm a healthy hippy. To be honest, a lot can be said for state of mind. If you feel like you've started the day well, you're more likely to be happy and continue that way!
Well, that's what I think anyway! I believe that green tea DOES speed up metabolism, but you might have to drink a lot of it! I'm happy with my 1 to 2 cups a day though...
I love green tea. It makes it alot easier to get all the water I need when i can have some tea too.

It also fills me up so I don't want to snack as much.

I wouldn't think a suppliment would do the same as actually drinking a cup of green tea though...
I've taken multivitamin supplements with green tea extracts in them and loved them!  I also happened to drink them down with green tea, just because I love the tea.  However, flavored green tea drinks usually contain sugar, or other ingredients that don't do much for you.  Keep those down to a min.

Is it good for helping me absorb and metabolize the vitamins?  I say yes.  But everyone is different.  So take them for a while and see how you feel on them.  If you feel better on them, then I'd say your body is taking them in just fine.  Of course healthy eating helps your body absorb vitamins better than eating more processed foods and less health concious choices that can block the absorbtion of different vitamins and minerals.

Good luck!
To tired to get into the details..... but GREEN TEA IS A SUPERFOOD.... go for it....  but forget the tablets and drink the real thing...........
Tried the green tea tablets and they don't do a thing for me.  However, I LOVE organic green tea!  My friend and I brew a big pot and then go to Sonic and get a Route 44 cup of crushed ice and fill it up and drink slushy, ice cold green tea all day.  I also have a few flavored favorites that have ginger and lemongrass, mango, etc. that I drink in the morning for something soothing.  The health benefits are great, but you do have to be careful and remember that it does contain caffeine - watch out if you are trying to cut caffeine out of your diet or get the decaf (but only organic)!

Caffeine speeds up your metabolism and the antioxidants are fabulous!
