Should I take green tea supplements?
Asked by alfredomcarrion on Jul 29, 2008 in Alternative & Integrative Nutrition

Answer

The scientific evidence is unclear for green tea’s role in weight loss, but it might make weight loss easier by boosting metabolism and burning fat.  However, do not take more than 1500 mg of GTE (Green Tea Extract or pholyphenols) per day because large doses have been associated with liver toxicity.  The average cup of green tea contains 50–150 mg of polyphenols, but the capsules may contain 100-900 mg each. It is also prudent to take green tea capsules with meals.
