So i just grew another 1/2 an inch when i thought i was fully done growing for years!
Im a 5'10 3/4 female 18 years old, weight 129 lbs. How much weight is expected for me to gain within this 1/2 inch growth spurt?
I was 5'10 1/4 for the longest time! I noticed about a 1.5 lb gain over the past month... am i expected to gain more weight?
(Im not at all restrictive or anything btw!)
Thanks
Yes. When your height goes up your weight goal goes up. Your BMI right now is about 18 which is still far too low - you need to be closer to 19 to 20 (ideally 20) BMI. Particularly 20 if you don't have your period.
You likely grew because you're gradually gaining weight and supplying yourself with the fuel you require to grow. 1.5lbs in a month is extremely slow; are you at 2500 right now? If not I suggest you get there.
If you haven't seen it already: The Aim is to Gain: Advice on Weight Gain, Whatever Your Reason - it contains advice, tips, food ideas, and even a sample meal plan. While you increase, don't weigh in for at least two weeks. When you introduce carbohydrate into the body you hold a certain amount of water for each gram of carbohydrate you consume. This does not mean less carbs mean less water retention and carbohydrate is a CRUCIAL part of anyone's diet (should make up to 50-60% of any person's caloric intake) because it is your primary fuel source. This is why people experience water retention when increasing in any situation, largely, as well as the factors of sodium, food weight, bowel movements...
2500 will help your metabolism catch up, help fuel your body with all it needs to repair itself properly and then some (as you have experienced already to a degree), and to appropriately gain weight. To get your calories up that high take initiative, make sensible choices - particularly, high calorie, low density food. Stuff like oils, nuts, nut butter, seeds, dense breads, pasta, whole fat dairy, oily fish, avocado, coconut, bananas, dried fruit - and much more, of which ideas are listed at the top of this forum.
I would look at your diet to make sure you are eating enough and not working out too much. Sometimes one thinks they are doing those things right but in reality are not. Also things like do you have a regular cycle, energy,do you get sick often. Then you can make healthy lifestyle changes
