Grilled Cheese

Anyone know a healthy grilled cheese alternative??

Honestly, I don't usually feel too bad making a grilled cheese. I use whole wheat bread and deli cheese with a few slices of tomato on it. Sometimes with basil or spinach leaf on it as well. The only thing I do to make it better is that I don't use butter, which it does come out drier, but still really tasty.
Absolutely!

These inexpensive sandwich grills they sell for around $10 which grill 2 sandwiches can save you a ton on butter/ margerine calories from grilled cheese in the pan.

They brown the bread nicely and you can spray it with pam if you prefer.

Regular versus lite cheese is a personal opinion but perhaps one of each might make a nice combo.
You could make an open faced one by putting one piece of bread in the toaster, then top it with cheese and put it in the oven to broil.  Just be careful the cheese doesn't stick to the roof of your mouth!

I don't think grilled cheese is too bad either. I've made them with light wholw wheat bread and two slices of regular American cheese and I spray both pieces of bread with I can't believe it's not butter spray. It comes out to a little more than 200 calories and I normally have a cup of tomato or vegetable soup with it. You can make it with just one cheese slice, or with fat free slices for fewer calories.

I know its not the same, but you could toast an english muffin, especially the light kind and then melt some cheese on it. i like to make melts all the time by sticking it in the microwave to get the cheese melty and then putting lettuce, tomato and turkey with mustard and hot sauce. but that is kind of a different story.

Use toasted whole wheat bread... and instead of buttering it and stuffing it with cheese, lay on some spinach, sliced tomato, mushrooms, and ham (if you like it) and then top it with a sprinkle of grated cheese and grill it. Yummo!
I love these and recently bought 1/4# of low fat cheese, used minimum butter in skillet.  My bread is WW light and 45 calories a slice.

It was wonderful and I had enough cheese to have a couple of sandwiches.

Normally, cause of sodium I don't buy cheese.  But had an urge for grilled cheese, now I'm good for a couple of months :)
Healthier option is to take 2 slices whole grain bread. A couple of slices of cheese on each peice of bread. Put it in the toaster oven or regular oven and cook till the cheese is melty. Put the slices together and bon appetit! Trust me you don't miss the butter.

I also second putting tomatoes in it. Or pineapple slices with cheddar cheese rocks.
I add on some canola oil spray to my George Forman grill and then take two pieces of vegan, sprouted grain bread, soy cheese, tomates, and fresh herbs. It's hardly a grilled cheese; more like some kind of panini. Heheh...
Kraft makes fat free singles that have about 30 calories in them (the sodium's slightly high, so if you have high blood pressure I don't recommend it.)
Use that with 100% whole wheat bread (I really could care less for the light stuff; it's more processed and as a consequence you lose the most important part of the bread-the fiber), some tomato slices and fresh leaf spinach. The healthiest way of making it is using a George Foreman grill or a skillet with cooking spray.

In the process you'll have a sandwich with whole grain, fiber, protein, and 1/2 serving of vegetables- all at 250 calories. :D And it's tasty, all things considered.

I have one of those sandwich makers. They're great for not adding calories to the sandwich.

I like sprouts and a tomato slice added. Sometimes sliced onion too.

I use whole grain bread, thin slices of cheddar or Good Slice - Cheddar flavour (soy based cheese alternative made by Yves Veggie, about 40 calories per slice and no cholesteral), I add some tomato slices with fresh basil, then I cook it either in a panini press (no butter needed) or toast the bread first and then broil it with the cheese and tomatoes in the oven.

What's also really tasty is adding apple slices instead of the tomato slices (and minus the basil) it actually goes really well with the cheese.   Mmmm... typing this makes me want to go make one...

I have one of those sandwich makers and I spray Pam on it.  As for the sandwich itself I use WW whole wheat bread and light cheese and add a slice or two of onion and sometimes a slice of low fat ham or chicken.  The sandwich along with a cup of low fat cream soup and some raw veggies is a great meal.

I use Ezekial Bread, Fat Free Cheese & no fat butter spray.  If you can find the Ezekial Bread ( it's in the frozen section) it's alot heathier and has a nutty flavor. I can't eat any other bread now, and it comes in several flavors, including cinnamon raisin.

i looove grilled cheese.  if i'm feeling bad about the calories, i make half a sandwich.

i wouldn't really call it healthy, but smuckers makes a grilled cheese uncrustable sandwich that you just microwave, for only 150 calories :)

not really an everyday thing, but an occasional treat that fits into your calorie budget !

I don't know what you mean by healthy, but i make mine with light wheat bread= 80 cal for 2 slices and Kraft Free Singles American Nonfat  = 31 cal per slice. I use a non stick pan or just a tiny little bit of light butter and voila! 111 calories (without butter) per grilled cheese!
