Who saw it, who loved it, and who liked which film better?
I loved it all. Especially the trailer for "thanksgiving"
"Black meat. White meat. both will be carved."
*cackle*
9 out of 10 in my book. I would have given it a 10, but Tarantino needs to stay out of his own movies (HE CANT ACT) and the first half of his film was wordy.

Oh man I LOVED Grindhouse, I am so upset that it is doing so poorly at the theaters. But it was definitely a great movie and probably one of my favorites now.
Funny you should say that about Tarantino, everyone I was with and I agreed his acting sucks (cause it does). My boyfriend and I were talking about this yesterday (my boyfriend was a film major and absolutely loves Tarantino, so he knows more about him than I do), and this is the conversation we had :
Me : I didn't know he had any acting experience.
BF : He's in all his movies.
Me : Oh I know that, I just didn't think he was trained as an actor.
BF : He started out as an actor.
Me : ... hm, he hides it well.
We had a long laugh about that.
As for wordy, it was classic Tarantino (not my boyfriend's words). It reminded me of his older movies, based on real dialogue. I loved it. And of course the first movie was freakin' fantastic.

suldrun,
My friends and I went back and forth on this. They were two totally different movies. The first one, like you said, never a dull moment. It was hilarious, hokey, and despite all its complete retardedness (in a good way) a great movie. Tarantinos? Well, it was Tarantino. All and all it was a better put together movie (aside from the fact that you never really understand how the you get from the first half to the second half...I have my theories on that).
I am torn myself. Initially I thought the first one was better just for all it's craziness, but the more I think about it and read about Tarantino's I find that that movie had a lot of levels and personally I like a movie that isn't laid out there for you, where you gotta dig a bit to see what is really going on. So I'm leaning toward Tarantino's movie now -- but like you said not by much they were both so good.

OMG!!!! I absolutely loved both movies and the whole experience... those people that are waiting to rent because of the running time are really going to miss out!! You really have to see this in the theater... although I can't wait for the DVD either just to see it again and see the special features!!! They really stayed true to the whole grindhouse concept too... it was totally awesome... and of course I love me some Quentin!!!!
My husband even like it... although he won't go as far as "love" because he hates Quentin with a passion... but he did admit that at least his movie was in order - lol!!

loriklorik, my bf didnt want to give it a chance either because it looked stupid, but thats the point! The whole move is like "DONT TAKE ME SERIOUSLY"
it silly and fun.

"are you a tarantno fan? did you like Kill Bill"
Kill bill ticked me off like crazy! The guy got huge response to it...but...it seemed like some sad anime otaku sat down and wrote down all the parts of anime he liked into a script.
Girls with swords! Check!
Schoolgirls with swords! Check check!
Splatty blood! Check!
Evil Villain bosses! Check!
they even had a bit of poorly done anime for about 10 minutes in the middle!!
Great, if the guy likes anime ... i have no problem (anime has a bunch of new stuff that we just dont get to see in the states, interesting stories and seems more "fun"). But when he takes anime...then butchers it and calls it his own... thats when it just drives me crazy.
But no one else notices it as a watered down ripoff...because they never watched the anime he ripped it from.

Saw it. Loved it. Don't know which one I liked best, maybe "Planet Terror". I thought the Thanksgiving trailer was a bit over the top.
The movie(s) will be on my "Must Have" list for the DVD library.

I admit, I wasn't impressed with Grindhouse. The trailers were great, but I found the movies kind of stupid, especially Tarantino's self-indulgent segment. Tarantino writes such caricatures (jive-talking blacks, redneck southerners, etc.) and his constant '70s pop culture references have long since become annoying and often inappropriate for the characters. He also needs to start taking advice and not acting anymore.
Also, am I wrong in saying they made a big mistake not setting it in the 1970s?
I've got THE QUEEN, THE LAST KING OF SCOTLAND, and THE SEVEN-UPS ('70s Roy Scheider cop film) for the weekend. I'm trying to recall the last really good movie I saw...it may have been, believe it or not, CHARLOTTE'S WEB. I try to pride myself on being an equal-opportunity film watcher, though I stay away from political thrillers and spy movies, for the most part.
