I base my grocery list on this

http://www.whfoods.org/foodstoc.php

I actually printed it out a couple of years ago, crossed out the foods I really don't like, and started choosing from the list.

Other groceries that are not on the list

The Acme (Albertson's) brand of Wheat and Brown Rice flakes
Uncle Sam Original cereal

Frozen Langer's juice mixtures
Whole Foods brand flax seed waffles

Whole Foods brand fruit spreads
Hellman's light mayonnaise
Kraft 1/3 less fat Philly cream cheese
Sargento reduced fat cheeses

this week my vegetables are kale, sweet potatoes (yams), green cabbage, celery, parsley, carrots.

My fruits are grapes, bananas, oranges, strawberries, cantaloupe.

My dairy products are fat free milk, fat free yogurt, 1% cottage cheese.

My fish is salmon and my meat purchase is chicken thighs.

In the bulk aisle at Whole Foods, I got grains - red quinoa and steel cut oats.

Also, walnuts, coffee, low sodium chicken broth, canned tomatoes.

PS - I don't use many packaged foods.  Most of what I eat is cooked from scratch, sometimes in advance and frozen.

This is my shopping list (haven't been to the store in a looong time...)

  • frozen chicken breasts

  • PAM

ughh I hope that's it. This is going to cost a lot, but at least I'll get lots of exercise hauling all this stuff up four flights of stairs.

Man, I'm so jealous of you guys!  I'm in college right now with no access to a good supermarket (or a place to store even half the stuff on the shortest of lists!)  Can't wait until I'm settled in my own home... I'm such a homebody :)

My general shopping list:

Kale or spinach

carrots

beets

celery

broccoli or tomatoes

avocado (delicious!)

turnips

oranges

apples

bananas

canned beans

miso (for miso soup)

unsweetened soy milk

brown rice

onions

unsweetened Kool-Aid packets (I sweeten the Kool-Aid with stevia)

ETA:  I don't bother buying bread, because I make my own now.  It's a lot cheaper, and I don't have to read the ingredients list.  I use this recipe for no-knead whole wheat bread - it's really really easy, and it makes nice basic whole wheat bread.
