my roommate is a in perfect shape and about 18 years younger then me. She bakes cookies daily. It is hell. I told her she has to move if she doesn't stop baking cookies.

good for you. stay away from Soda.I quite 6 months ago. caffeine too. after giving up soda for a while taste it..... it will be gross.

Fridays sound good to me...And Adge1967 my scale sucks too. I too check everyday and today I told my scale it was stupid...LOL...But it did go down a half pound since the other day....Wink

I quit back in Januray. I'll be honest, i've drank it a few times since, but only because of a new medicine caused by my fibromyalgia. it makes me crave sugar! So my boyfriend gave me the idea of eating a tic tac when i felt the urge to eat sugar. it really works, and i stopped drinking soda (and he cried cause of this... we were both addicted to pepsi at one point!)

I still drink diet regularly. Whenever I 'quit', I still crave it. No matter how long it's been :(

Well anyway, cross out regularly, put obsessively. Thankfully I haven't noticed in myself any of the effects of artificial sweeteners touted by scaremongerers on other sites I visit. Switching to diet is what I did when I first started losing weight, it hasn't slowed me down so far. I know I overeat when I'm being too lax, and I know that's what makes me gain XD.

I'm really happy that others who found it a negative influence have been able to give it up  ^^ it just goes to show, you can do anything you really want to! I guess I've just never wanted to... Aw, I'm hopeless XD.

sugarsweet, dont say your hopeless. this might help...

I hate drinking water. actually I'm never that thirsty so I have no idea how anyone can drink 64ounces a day.... Anyway, I started buying this water from the healthfood store called metromint. It is real mint, all natural unsweetend and no calories. It isn't cheep about 175.00 a bottle but it is so good. They have lemon mint, orangemint and peppermint too. It is the only way I stay away from Soda. I also Love icetea but my doctor said no caffeine so Metromint is it.

I am in i weigh a137 and want to be 125 or less. i am only 5,3. I am starting today to eat more often and smaller meals. my vice is alcohol and comfort food but i am stopping today. i think i will only endulge on the weekends:)

Luvmyboy; welcome in! So many people my height (or close enough for a town this size XD), so happy ^^.

Adge; Hmm, sounds tasty ^^, I wonder if it's in stock around here... thanks for the tip!

Is decaffeinated tea (think there is anyway) not an option then, or are trace amounts a problem as well? I can't remember how much actually ends up in the tea after it's decaffeinated...

sugarsweet, chamomile tea is decaf but a weaker tasting tea.

You just gave me a great idea, one that I totally forgot about....

Putting those tea bags in glass jar with some fresh mint and set out in the sun  is a great idea. Add lemon and ice. It is the only way I will drink my daily recommend amounts of water.

Oh, and Luvmyboy, welcome too. Red wine...chocolate- my downfall. Ah, who am I kidding.......
 ( cosmopolitans and margaritas too.)

5'3/5'4 (somewhere in between)

CW: 133

GW: 125 (or whatever it takes to make my hips a little smaller)

tip: i've been doing this for two weeks ("this" being eating less, exercising more, and making what i eat more nutrients and less empty carbs and sugars), and something that really helps me get through the mornings at my desk is a strong cup of earl grey tea. you get the benefit of drinking water, it's more satisfying because it has actual flavor, but it doesn't have the too-sweet-ness of diet drinks. both caffeinated and non work great! :)

SCALES-

I was just told that Tanita and Health o meters work really well.

Love earl grey tea.

Welcome to you too Melindatodgham! Sounds like you've got the right idea on how to proceed, can't wait to see how we all end up in July (There's that impatience again!).

Adge; I've heard lots of good things about Tanita. Make sure the batteries are okay if you get a digital scale though :)

I know, We are all about the same height and structure. I think I am 124, but my scale at the gym says 127.  I'm medium boned too and 5'3-1/2ish.

Oh, for all those Pmsing (like me) or on their cycle.... I don't know about you, but this is the time I loose it with the weight loss effort. I am an emotional PMS eater, ice cream and chocolate and don't feel like working out cause ya feel like HELL. I think we should all be really good to ourselves. Each day making a special effort to do something really good just to get us through the hump.

Any suggestions? Guys- this means you too.

i am in the same boat as you adge! right now im at 149 but these last couple days its said 152. my diet goes out the door for a few days every month during the dreaded cycle!

are you doing anything to make your self feel better? I did a yoga class on Sunday, then got a manni peddi. Tonight I am giving my self a facial right about the time I want to eat ice cream! I think each and everyday give something to yourself no matter what.

I'm allergic to aspertain, or else I'd be all over diet soda. I have my AZ green tea, thats ALL I drink. I know it has caffeine in it, but not much I don't think. I'm allergic to caffeine too. It makes me woozy. Friends actually bring me 2 green teas when they know I'm going to a party with them because I will drink 2 and be tipsy, almost drunk-like. It's quite funny. Aspertain makes me fall asleep and make me dizzy. NOT fun. I hate being such an allergy Frown. When I stopped drinking soda, I was drinking just water, trying to be healthy. My god I thought I was going to kill someone. Then I decided to go back to AZ green tea (I stopped drinking it when I was drinking Pepsi religiously). Now life is better, I'm drinking about 64oz I'd say, so thats good... right?

Oh, and my scale decided to like me again. I didn't really feel hungry yesterday, and only ate like 1200 calories (and that was me forcing myself to eat!) and the scale decided to tell me I was 145 again. Lets hope that it stays that way!

Oh…this is me again since it’s been a few pages since I’ve contributed…

24yrs old

SW (this time…let’s say 207 last sept.) my worst was 227

CW: 184 (down 3lb since I joined the group…wooo)

Goal by July 4: 177

GW: 160 (a fit 170 might do it to, but I’m playing it by ear)

I’ve been reading through the 4 pages that we have up already (yay!) and this is my input on some of the things people have been saying (not going to quote everyone, so hopefully everyone will be able to follow my seemingly random thought process):

1)      I give myself little rewards every week that I work out 4x J  This could be a movie that I’ve wanted to get, or a new pair of workout pants/shoes…whatever, just not food! I got myself a food scale that doubles as a kitchen timer one week…comes in handy and means I can’t delude myself about how much wine is in a “full glass.”

2)      Scales that say they measure your body fat…well, just don’t work in my opinion.  You need to either get a water immersion (spelling?) test, or more commonly at the gym, a body fat test with calipers.  Also, each time you get measured, try to get measured by the same person as everyone varies in their methods.  Keep in mind that fat weighs literally half as much as muscle.

3)      Speaking of scales, I bought a new one about 3 weeks ago (a Taylor, clear glass scale, which cost about $40 at target, and measures in increments of .2) and it seems to be working just fine for me J

4)      I have been on a peppermint tea binge since I’ve been staying away from caffeine and soda in general.  I sweeten the tea with a half packet of splenda, and probably drink about 4 cups a day…haha.  I also really like different fruit flavors of herbal tea, which are caffeine free and help you get your water in.  Another trick I use is putting lime/lemon in my water. Oh…and have I mentioned how fabulous gum is when you have snacking urges?

5)      Drinking is probably my weakness, and if I must indulge, which happens quite frequently since I’m young and have a decent social life, I have been sticking to wine, or rum/vodka with either diet soda or sugar free energy drinks…saving myself a little here and there.

6)      Friday’s seem like great days for weigh in…keeps me accountable for the weekend!

On a side rant…my roommate’s boyfriend just moved in about 3 weeks ago…and not only is my house 2x dirtier (she was never that clean to begin with), but they have SOOOOOOOOOOOOO much more crap food in the house!  I almost can’t wait to move home with my mom (which I will be doing next feb to save more money for traveling) because at least she’s clean and eats well (well, more like a bird…but she’s doing nutrisystems now). I mean, icecream, cookies, chocolate covered strawberries! I don’t even WANT it, but I’m just IRRITATED that it’s even there! Arghhh. Ok…that was my rant. I think I’ve typed enough now! Hope everyone’s having a great week!
