Here's a fun little question...mainly aimed at girls because I am one(though boys can answer too, I don't discriminate).
Ladies, when did you stop growing height-wise? I thought I stopped around age 13-14, but I also started dieting at that age and kind of spun into an eating disorder. In the past year (age 18), since I've start restoring my caloric intake/energy balance, I've shot up from 5'8 3/4" to 5'9 1/2".
I think I may be going through another round of growing again for several reasons:
1. my ankles/legs have been kinda achey...like in the joints and i've been pretty good about making sure my impactive exercise doesn't cause too much joint trouble
2. several people i met recently have guessed that I'm about 6'0", and a few people that i haven't seen over have asked if i've grown.
3. I don't want to trigger, so I'm putting up a warning before I write this. Turn away if you like. :]
...
My appetite has been VORACIOUS over the past few days. For example, yesterday there just did not seem to be enough food in the WORLD for me. I ended up eating about 3200 calories for the day, and STILL woke up hungry in the middle of the night. Given, my past reputation with binging/night-eating isn't all that great...but yesterday I don't think my choices were influenced by any of that because I don't feel guilty and I was just REALLY hungry.
Anyway, I guess my question is just kind of a fun survey-says things. Ladies...at what age did you stop growing?
Thanks :]
I was about 5'2" at the age of 10 and I'm now 5'6". I'd say I stopped growing vertically at the age of about 16 or 17. I also remember having a voracious appetite for the whole of my teens... something I've had to trim back in car-driving, desk-job, adulthood with greater or lesser degrees of success!!!
I don't believe I grew any taller than 5'4" after age 13. However I kept being told I was going to "shoot up" and be tall like the rest of my family.
I've been 5'7 since I was 14 and everyone told me I was going to shoot up to 5'10 "any day now" LOL. But I stalled and here I am 30 and still 5'7 now my husband was 6'4 at the end of high school and shot up to 6'8 in the years after high school. Being 5'10 would really be handy at this point! LOL. Sweetie I don't think you are unusual, I think the hunger you are experiencing is maybe an impending growth spurt. However, did you start any new medications? I ask because after I started Depo Provera for birth control my hunger was out of control! Medication can play a role in your hunger too.
My cousin is 19 and has grown an inch in the past two years! To the best of my knowledge she has never had an eating disorder or anything that would have hindered growth in earlier years. Some people just keep growing longer!
I think I stopped growing ~17
Think I was about 15, more's the pity!
Girls can grow up until around 25, though it'd be rare. Boys stop around 18
katie: Nope, no new meds as of right now (and keeping my fingers crossed it stays that way). I know about the b/c hunger thing, though, I tried a few pills this past year to see if we could start my period again (I've have ammenorrhea for almost 3 years). However, I've been really good lately about exercising a bit less and getting proper nutrition, and my body's starting to give me signals like I might be trying to menstruate again. So I'm thinking my hunger's a good combo of all of these. I'm not worried, just not necessarily in the know right now as to what's going on inside my body. It's interest, haha.
ecwk: Height insecurity? I feel you there! I used to have it really bad. Now I think being tall is empowering. :]
Is there a safe diet pill for teens?
