Weight Loss

I think the calorie counter is broken! I have been trying to up my calories every day, but I always seem to fall short and end up forcing myself to snack my way through the day. I feel like I'm eating non-stop!
I enter every single bite of anything I take into this thing, but the calories just tawdle up the scale. I've eaten 883 calories so far today and am just STUFFED. There is no way humanly possible I can cram another 500-600 into this day without exploding!
I'm seriously thinking about scrapping this site. It's making me OCD anyway! I even skipped my workout today so my calorie deficit wouldn't be too high today. Last night, I indulged in a giant 3 oz. peanut butter cookie wrapped and soaked in YUCK from the store just to get my calories up for the day. (Might I add, it tasted pretty darn good, too?)
I'm starting to think if I could (and I did!) healthfully lose over 135 pounds on my own, then why am I making these last 25 into a nightmare for myself! What I've been doing has been working for me and my health and my weight has dramatically improved. I just needed to VENT!!
On the upside, if I can hardly get 1200 calories into me on any given day without really working at it, I can only imagine what I was doing to myself when I was getting fat and fatter! HA!

May I just say that you don't need to follow EVERY bit of advice on this site? It doesn't apply to everyone. Those posts that say you should only have a 1000 cal deficit TOPS? I don't follow them. when I first started, I was having around 2000 a day deficit, and I lost a ton of weight. Do what works best for you, not necessarily other people.
Also, don't confuse caloric density of food with AMOUNT of food. I can eat 1 steak and get 500 cals, or I can eat a huge salad loaded with nuts, feta cheese, veggies, and tons of other stuff with only like 350 calories. Eat denser foods...throw some nuts in there, throw some more fatty foods (good fats, avoid saturated). There are tons of ways to up your cals by like 100 per meal without busting a gut.

I felt the same way when I started. I had to learn to eat more and when doing so, eat healthy. I still feel like I'm always eating, but I know I could eat a jelly sandwich for a whole mess of calories, or I could have a whole apple for just a few.
Oh, and when I was getting fatter and fatter, I did it by not eating enough on most days then eating too much on rare occasions. I was never eating as often as I do now! It's all about balance.
Like F-dub says, if you're looking for calories and really falling short, find denser food. 4 apples will really fill you up, but all of them together don't have the same calorie value as a nice steak.
Good for you for getting as far as you have and to educate yourself to continue a healthy life style. It's Friday. Don't be frusterated. Be proud for what you've done for yourself.

I've been eating healthy lunches, but the lettuce wrap with ham and veggies yesterday left me hungry an hour later. Today I ate basically the same thing with one slice of cheese and one piece of whole wheat bread. I'm much more satisfied. I worry, too, about my calorie deficit. I'm eating about 1400 calories and using sometimes close to 3000 (but usually more like 2500). I've been afraid of diets my whole life because I didn't want to "wreck my metabolism" --train my body to live on fewer calories so I'd be forced to be deprived for the rest of my life.
Losing 135 pounds is monumental. Don't beat yourself up over 25 more. I wish I could do what you've done.

I don't even know what having a deficit means?
Anyone, Anyone.....bueller?

Deficit means you spent more calories than you consumed. A 'general' rule is that you want your deficit between 500 and 800 calories a day.
So say you eat 1400 calories a day. Your body probably burns around 1600 a day just keeping you alive, and then say you go running and burn another 400 calories.
2000 total calories spent, 1400 calories going in = 600 calorie deficit

Italia, the lower weight you are, the less calories you burned, so it would really be safter to have a deficit of 500-800 at that point. I've got about 15ish left, so I've gone down to the 500-800 a day, only cause I'm preparing for maintanence. When I started though? I was burning around 3400 calories and only eating around 1800...thats a 1600 calorie deficit and it worked fine for me. But (and say it with me!) EVERYONE IS DIFFERENT. What works for me might not work for you :)

This was such good advice, I thought it beared repeating.
Bodies are different and respond differently (duh). It works for me not to have too large of a deficit, but I had to learn that through my own expereince. I would not up my calorie level if I didn't have to, but I stall at over a 1000 calorie deficit.
