Weight Gain

Hello,

I am a seventeen year old male and currently recovering from anorexia. I have been doing quite well these first three days, if I do say so myself. I have over-ate (binged) quite a bit these first three days (but what is important is that I did not restrict, purge, or exercise afterword). [if you'd like to learn more about my situation, please read my journal]

In short,

During my ED, I never actually dropped below my recommended weight for my height. However, I did come close to being the minimum healthy weight, I never got there, I've stayed in the normal range. However the bmi's version of normal and the one that my friends and family seem set on are quite different, and my doctor agrees with them, so I am trying to gain weight. Since I never dropped below what is considered healthy, how much should I plan on gaining back? [for specifics on my lowest weight and height and current weight, read my journal please]

I think that maybe the reason why weight gain is important to my recovery is more about helping me break the mental hold that the disease has over me, and less about gaining weight to gain weight (although I'm sure that is part of it as well)

Any insight is appreciated,

AIR (anonymous in recovery)

i think that the best thing for you to do is to make a weight goal with your doctor since he also seems concerned. if that isn't possible then aim for a BMI of AT LEAST 20. you are right about the importance of breaking free of the mental hold the disease can have!! that's actually the most difficult part.
