Guilt!

Quote  |  Reply

Hi guys, really need some help - I am trying to gain obviously - but I have this feeling of guilt if I eat everything I am supposed to!

I manage to get my breakfast down and my snacks but it gets to lunch and I ust cant eat it! It is not that I am not hungry and I know I NEED to put the weight on, but pyschologically I cant eat it! Ill eat my dinner and have supper but because I know I have missed my lunch I know I need them!

Has any one had this feeling of guilt? I want to get fit and well! But I need to jump this hurdle and get on the way to the next one!

Thank you, Kerry x x

With this post I'd think you've possibly been restricting whether intentionally or unintentionally. This is because a feeling of guilt around eating usually coincides with starvation and a reaction in your mind. I suggest you speak to a doctor.

As for how to handle it now, just... literally, push past it. Focus on everything being a healthy weight will bring you. Health benefits, more energy, more confidence.

Yes I understand guilt and anxiety are my middle names. I agree and lala is right that you have to push through these feelings or they can't get better. At first you will want to flip out but it will get easier. Try to remind yourself of your goals. The goal is to gain but to also be healthy and skipping meals is not even on a weight loss plan. You want to be in a healthy lifestyle where you fuel your body but also don't have the emotional things like guilt. Can you talk more about why you feel guilty? What are your fears? Can you make a plan to have lunch today and then we can help you get through and to be accountable. You can start slow and add on like a sandwich and a side? I used to feel this way about breakfast. Now I can't imagine not having breakfast. I would be crabby  You can do this

She's right you just gottta push past the feeling, easier said then done i am going through this in the hospital right now! Its like if i just leave some behind, something then it justifies that i ate.Undecided

I agree with all the responses. It was really, really hard for me at first to start eating but then I decided that the only way I was going to get past the fear, was by going majorly out of my comfort level and forcing myself to eat what I had to. Just force yourself to eat a little more each day and you will get there and realize it is not so bad. The only way you can do it though, is by taking the risk and making yourself eat, I promise. With ED's, recovery is not supposed to be something that just happens. From what I've experienced so far, it is all about how much you are willing to do to get better and how much you want it.

Good luck <3

During the summer I rarely eat. Not because I don't wan to but because I'm not hungry. Last summer, I went down to 94lbs. What I did to get my weight at a more healthy range is I started eating snacks. Eat granola bars during lunch. Don't try to eat a large meal right away, start small and that way slowly expanding your stomach

Hopefully this is of help
