Guilt has taken over...HELP
Help! Need some advice. Worried! Went out to eat tonight at mexican restaurant.....Ate 4 flour tortillas. 2 of them had chicken fajita meat in them and the other 2 were plain with butter! Also had a few chips and salsa! Everything was WAY Less than what I would normally eat but I feel really BAD when I eat something that isnt healthy! Like it will worry me for the next few days..Anyone else go through this????
That doesn't sound so bad, lol. In fact it sounds mighty delicious to me about now. :) We all slip up, do don't be so hard on yourself. Tomorrow is a brand new day, and a brand new slate! :)
thanks so much! i am rather hard on myself and i know it but it is like i cant control it. i have done really good for 4 weeks now and i have lost about 6 lbs but whenever i eat something bad it just makes me feel like the worse person ever...i have to find a way NOT to be so hard on myself...
I don't know if it's appropriate to post this as a reply here, but I'm having a guilt night too. I usually don't drink (liquid calories), but went out with some friends tonight and had two daiquiris...minus the whipped cream...but they tasted soooo good. I upped my workout today knowing this was going to hapen, but I feel so ungodly guilty. And I still want to EAT. I'm so paranoid that the occasional (but becoming more frequent) splurge is going to put the pounds I've lost right back on...
obessesive.....
Your screen name gives good insight into your problem, our porblems, with food. We are compulsive and obsessed with food. We have abnormal reactions to foods:
Physically, one bite/taste of certain things makes us crave more, a phenomenon that only other addicts experience with their "subsatnce".
Mentally, we are obsessed and the guilt feelings simply set us up for more bingeing...a vicious cycle!
GUILT is your addiction sustaining itself...wipe out those negative feelings by concentrating on the positives. You have lost weight, and you can doit, and you will do it again!
Hope this helps you both!
Like Rachelrobin said don't be too hard on yourself, if anything take the guilt that you feel now to push you to exercise even harder tommorow. And don't worry, everyone slips up. :D
I'd say the worst thing is when you go to a restaurant, get something that seems healthy (Chicken Teriyaki at Subway for example, or a 'salad' with everything in it...) and then go and look it up online and found out that you just ate 500 cals over your desired limit, or just ate 1,000 mg of sodium (dam you subway).
That sucks. But yes, I totally understand what you mean by the guilt factor. I stopped going to the Pizza Hut Lunch buffet becuase I always felt guilty after (and rather ill as well) even though I would opt for a super small thin piece of vegy pizza and some salad with light dressing (it came out to 300cals).
Fight the guilt. It's your enemy, just as much as the food itself.
Wait I take that back. Food is not your enemy... but guilt is. :)
Okay, I'm being silly. All I'm trying to say is "Guilt... what is it good for? Nothing." I consider guilt as one of those things one should learn to do without (in the same way that one has to get over being self-conscious at the gym.)
krismasself said it well; guilt is an indicator of having an unhealthy relationship with food. I think when people start dieting they think that it's all or nothing. They have to do it perfectly or not do it at all. This is why "dieting" can easily lead to eating disorders.
I think the key is education. Learn what foods are good for you and what aren't. Learn the proper portion sizes in what you should be eating. Information is your best defense when it comes to making a lifestyle change with food (or anything, for that matter).
What you ate is not terribly bad for you (it's not like you sat down with a tub of frosting and a spoon!), and you did well in eating in moderation, which is ultimately the key.
The goal should be changing your lifestyle and attitude towards food to lead to a healthier you. Eat the things you like (or even better, discover healthy alternatives that are just as good); go out with your friends and enjoy yourself. As long as it's in moderation, no reason to feel guilty.
thank you so much for this post. yesterday i ate way too much food, and not truly healthy food either. so now today, i feel guilty, sick and just want to give up this diet. i have been trying to lose a pound a week, and it is not going well, even though it seems as though i should have, when i add and subtract the calories. but though i usually give up at this point, i am sticking to it. i rode my bike for an hour, and ate better than yesterday. seeing these posts have helped me alot :)
rather than putting food into "good" and "bad" categories, I like to think of food as:
* food I can eat large amounts of (veggies, fruit, whole grains, etc)
* food I enjoy as a treat (chips, wine, chocolate)
as soon as I say to myself "that's it, no more chocolate, or cookies, or wine" (or whatever!!) well then I WANT IT dammit.
build your treats into your daily food plan. we ARE allowed to live and enjoy ourselves, even if we are working to a healthy weight!
I constantly feel guilty after eating, no matter what I eat. It started probably a couple years ago. I hate it. I just ate dinner and I'm feeling kinda bloated and guilty because I think I overate. Ugh. I just wish I could eat, be satisfied, and continue on with life without worrying.
