Gum chewers

Never understood the appeal of gum but its become my saving grace since Im 10 days cigarette-free.

SF Extra is what Im chewing and its in my mouth almost always, whether being chewed or just hanging there.  Ive noticed that at a certain point it starts disolving, becoming less solid.

Is there a gum that lasts longer than others?
Whats your choice for gum and why?

Gum has always bee my oral fixation. I was never a smoker, but my whole family is. I guess maybe from the 2nd had I need something so I chew gum.

I dont know which gums last longer but im usually fixed on Orbitz sugarfree spearmint. I buy 2 packs at a time usually. I know for a fact that stride gum doesnt last as long as orbitz.

Orbitz or excel.. both the silver kind... I'm an informal expert on gum. Trust me on this one.

I am a gum junie myself and I swear by stride gum..I love all their flavors but the cinnamon and spearmint are amazing and seem to last the longest. The orbitz usually lost its flavor after about 30min for me

I quit chewing tobacco and started chewing gum and I noticed that the fruit tasting gum tends to dissolve after a while and the minty or non fruit flavored ones last pretty much all day.

Congrats on 10 days smoke-free.  As a former smoker, I know how tough it can get.  My favorite was (and is) Dentyne Spicy Cinnamon Sugarless Gum.  Have always liked cinnamon & this gum has a very rich flavor...I feel like it holds up well, but I never just "parked" a piece in my mouth.  One of my other "saviours" as I was quitting were Altoids--the curiously strong Cinnamon and the curiously strong Peppermints are just over 3 calories per piece.  Don't know about you, but my craving for a smoke (and for food for that matter) always seemed a lot less if I had a strong, clean flavor in my mouth (like after brushing teeth).  Hence my penchant for strong flavored gum and the breath-takingly strong Altoids...I still use both to combat the occasional "I really NEED a cigarette" or "A Hershey's bar won't hurt me--I'll just do an extra hour at the gym..." impulses.  Again, kudos to you on your smoking cessation efforts!

Trident (orange fruit flavored something) is the only kind of gum that doesn't stick to my teeth.  It tends to turn into a little rubber eraser after a while.

i like the trident orange "tropical twist" flavor too...it seems to last awhile, but now that i think about it, it it does kind of get rubbery at a point. but trident comes in a pack of a million, so it's ok to go through it.

also orbit sweet mint is tasty and lasts forever.

I like all the extra sugar free flavors. I have never been a smoker but use the gum to get that oral fixation when I need something sweet or would just eat because I was bored or just wanted something.  I love the strawberry banana, wild berry and occasionally cinnamon. I like some of the other flavors too. when one of our grocers runs them on for a dollar a 10 pk (7stick pack) I buy every flavor for about 10.00 worth or so.  It is a lifesaver on the weight loss end for me sometimes......

I am absolutely addicted to Orbit gum.  My favorite flavors are bubblemint, sweet mint and one of the new flavors fruitini (i think thats what it's called).  It's soooo good.  

Since I'm so cheap, I buy those 3 packs of gum.  They're usually sold at pharmacy's, but I get them at target.  They're only $2.25 or something for like 42 pieces of gum!  It's amazing!

Congrats!!  I've been two months smoke-free.  I gained a little weight (5 lbs) the first week, but it came off two weeks later. 

I like the spicy dentyne cinnamon, too.  I like strong flavors.  However, because I felt that I needed additional help, I've been using Commit lozenges whenever the urge to smoke hits me.  They have a cappucino flavor that I like.  They work really well.  I use one or two a day, and hope to stop those soon.

orbit sweet mint is my favorite.

stride sweet peppermint lasts a really long time.

The fruity ones or kiddy ones such as hubba bubba dissolve to a really gross texture after a while. The same happens with the Juicy Fruit long soft chews, so gross.

You can't go wrong with excel/dentyne/orbitz, I've never tried stride. But all the mint flavors of any brand are great.

Five gum tastes amazing, it's expensive though.

I adore Orbit Gum... I have been chewing it religiously for about 6 years now and cannot chew any other kind of gum! I seriously should be sponsored by Wrigley - that's how much orbit I chew... I love Spearmint, Wintermint & Bubblemint - the newer flavors are a bit off and a little too strong for my liking, but the three I mentioned are spot on... 

My favorite is Orbit sweet mint gum. I find that any minty flavors last a really long time. I'm not a big fan of fruit/bubblegum flavors.

Eclipse is my favorite, by far. It lasts really long too. x3

i found this thread as i popped a piece of Extra Polar Ice gum into my mouth...lol.

i can't say which brands outlast each other, but as far as flavors go minty flavors, spearmint/peppermint/wintergreen/polar ice and the such tend to last longer than the fruit flavored gums.  Extra does get "thinner" as the flavor wears out, but that's usually after a pretty long time.  i'm usually on to a new piece by then.

I echo the praise for Orbit gum.  I chew the wintermint and sweetmint, and with wintermint, I can get at least 8 hours with no texture change and only partial loss of flavor.  I find the Orbit brand (stick form) lasts much longer, texture-wise than any of the gums in blister packs.

My preference is for a gum that is  long-lasting, on the soft side, and EXTREMELY minty. Extra Polar Ice and Wrigley 5 in Cobalt are my current favorites.

i am a gum addict. i guess it keeps me from snacking all day lol! i chew orbit, i usually buy it in bulk from BJ's wholesale. At work i usually stop by the dollar store nearby and pick up packets of extra which are not as good as orbit but its cheaper lol

Stride is my favorite, it lasts forever. The sweet mint is good, and I like spearmint anything. I like most gums, but it's really gross when it starts dissolving. Stride hasn't dissolved on me yet, but Extra and Winterfresh and all other similar gums have. I once fell asleep with some Winterfresh in my mouth, and it completely dissolved. Really gross.
