if gum says it contains 2 g. of "sugar alcohol" does that mean you log it as alcohol?
thanks.
Most people don't log gum since it contains almost zero energy. 'Don't sweat the small stuff'.
yeah, i usually don't. i'm only logging this gum because it's "vitamingum" and contains a small amount of many vitamins in every 2 pieces. but then it made me curious if "sugar alcohol" was what CC meant by "alcohol" since i've never logged anything with alcohol before.
I really wouldn't bother for the minute amounts of vitamins you're getting. Sugar alcohols are routinely used as artificial sweetners so if you've eaten any 'diet' foods in the past you've probably already been exposed to them. The quantities are very small... hardly the same as a glass of wine.
No. You do not log "sugar alcohol" as "alcohol" on cc. As gijane said, sugar alcohols are a form of artificial sweetener, but they are in no way the same thing as " ethanol" which is the alcolhol in alcoholic beverages.
Also, do not log the gum at all. "Vitamin" gum is just a marketing thing...it will not provide an appreciable amount of nutrition. Just chew it and forget it...
thank you for actually answering my question. but have you seen the nutrition label? i think it's pretty illegal to lie on a nutrition label. there are amounts of vitamins in two pieces of gum that aren't even in fruits and vegetables. and plus 5 calories here and there CAN add up. say i chew 12 pieces every day for a year but don't log it. that's 3 lbs worth of calories i'm not logging. not a lot, but it counts to me.
but the only thing my question had to do with was if sugar alcohol was the same thing as "alcohol" on calorie count. so thanks...

If you chew 12 pieces of gum containing sugar alcohol a day you'd probably burn off 3lbs worth of calories running forwards and back to the toilet! In large amounts, it can upset the digestion.
Enjoy the occasional stick of this gum but, obviously, don't think it counts as 'nourishment' - because it isn't. Then the 5 cals or so a day really doesn't make any difference whatsoever.
hahaha fair enough gi-jane, i'm not arguing. i saw that episode of house.
to the other guy, if vitamingum is actually a marketing ploy i don't really care because i didn't waste any money on it and don't plan to in the future. it was given out to my mom's work as a sample and she brought it home.
