Guns?
Ok Im thinking about picking up a new gun (already have a few). Im thinking about getting the S&W model 500 (mostly just because if you know what gun it is, its every mans dream to be dirty harry)... anywhat whats your opinion on gun laws.. do you think they help or just prevent people who want to use them lawfully from getting them... Most guns that are used in murders, crimes, and shootings are stolen anyway.. so who are the laws really effecting?
I think gun laws are a necessary evil. But, I do agree with you that gun laws don't stop crimes or prevent criminals from getting guns. Have you seen the B*llsh*t episode on gun laws? I thought it summed it up pretty good.
n, havent seen that epi.. all gun laws do is restrict people who want to obtain them legally for defense and or w/e reason they want... Not to mention in america atleast the right to have an FID card can be revoked for completely unrelated things... My father can no longer own any guns because he owes a decent amount of money in child support (to my mom) well for some reason he can no longer own a gun of any kind... and another one.. My uncle was arrested for DUI like 5 years back and he had his pistol permit revoked.. Neither one of those where even remotely related to any type of weapon never mind any guns
I agree that although gun laws are necessary, they are also kinda pointless. If someone really wants a gun, they will find a means of obtaining one. I agree that your legal weapons should be registered, but then again, if you get an illegal weapon, chances are you aren't going to register it. I'm not too familiar with gun laws, but from the sounds of the news, they don't do much good. People who want someone dead, will find means of doing it, even if they can't afford it, just look at all the IED's and other explosives that are being made in third world countries. I don't own any guns myself, although, if I could afford it, I totally would. Unfortunately the only weapon I've ever fired is a C7, (American M16), and I'm pretty sure with even if I had perfect credit and no previous convictions, I would get arrested for tottin' one of those around
Never used one. Can't see any reason to own one. Don't care what other people do with theirs unless they commit a crime or accidentally kill somebody, like the two toddlers who were killed indoors recently, by hunter's bullets penetrating their homes.
I'm in favor of more regulation (as in "well regulated") but agree that the regulations now don't do much to stop crime. Gun makers and sellers should be held accountable and punished for guns used in crimes. Cities should be able to restrict firearms since more are used for crime than are used for protection.
I disagree that most guns used in crimes are stolen, though many are. Most are bought from gun sellers at gun shows and in states with less restrictive laws, then they are sold on the street.
I think if you're buying one so you can fulfil the dream to 'be dirty harry' you've got a problem. The 'right to bear arms' etc. is a highly dubious concept already (King George has gone now, let it go...) but seeing your gun as a prop in some fantasy wet-dream role-play makes me wonder if you're exactly the type that shouldn't be allowed near the things....
I perfer my USP .40 with a mag of Glaser Safty Slugs for home protection but the Smith does have the "OH CRAP!" effect when aimed at someone.
Laws seem to favor the criminal thats obvious. Omaha has a concealed weapons permit (don't have one, thinking about it) and the anti-gun wacka-loons made people think there would be chaos on the streets because law abiding citizens had weapons. Never mind the death toll in one week of 5, including 2 teens, caused by gang bangers and illegal firearms. Never mind the Von Maur shooting last Christmas (this was done with legally purchased weapos that were stolen by the shooter from his father). Never mind the morons who let their pit bulls run loose. Many stores have put up "no guns allowed" signs, which is their right. I would think this would open them up to legal action if it caused the ijury or death of someone who could have defended themselves.
I do advocate locking up you guns.

There might be if they can prove the business was deliberately negligent in assuring the safety of its patrons, but the sign and policy itself would not necessarily be the cause of poor security/safety.
Bang bang, he shot me down
Bang bang, I hit the ground
Bang bang, that awful sound
Bang bang, my baby shot me down.
Gi-jane trust im highly qualified to have fire arms, One iv used them since I was 8 yrs old. Two Im in the military, And on the fireing range i average about 46 or so points out of a possible 50.. What I meant About the "dirt harry" remark was about the gun Im thinking of purchasing, In now ways was meant to be aimed at my general use of gun, if you googled the "S&W model 500" then you would know exactly why i referred to dirty harry... for the fact that is the worlds strongest production handgun, and that its a revolver that 18 inches long,
Falconer... I saw a video on those safty slugs... pretty cool stuff... for home protection I use a glock .45 Im not a big fan of the .45 rounds but I love the gun
As for guns in general.. hardley ever are registerd guns used by the OWNER for the crime... yes registerd guns do sometimes get used but not very often is it the actual owner of the weapon using it
husband had a S&W .357 Magnum - satisfyingly loud bang when fired. too much kick for me, however.
the 500 mag, fires a .500 round ovb. larger than a .44 mag but the .500 has less recoil... it carries a decent prive though... around $1300 USD
It was a handsome weapon as well. Wood grips, brushed steel, I think it was a 6 inch, if memory serves..
Loved his Glock - well made, light, reliable. But I prefer a revolver for ease of use.
Yea i love my glock to... but prefer revolvers for looks..... altho speed loaders ans sh** is a pain sometime... magazines are nice and easy
revolver has fewer moving parts - less that can go wrong. And it feels better in the hand. but that's just a personal preference.
no doubt about reliablity, idk know about feel tho.. i like non contoured grips
S&W 686 357mag and love it. 38's for target practice are nice and relaxing. My next gun will be a 410 revolver. 410 shotgun shells in a handcannon. Mmmm the Judge.....
for targets, I opt for my little Ruger .22 rifle. Much more fun for me to ping ping ping away and actually hit what I'm aiming for :)
my dad gave me his ruger mini 14 to me as my first rifle the gun is probibaly 20 yrs old now lol ... still have it too... I also have a .22 target pistol that i got as a gift... dont use it that often due to the fact that it feels weird to hold to me.. not a big fan of .22s either. altho there great of your just plinking around
I just think that every person residing under the roof of a house with guns should have to pass a gun safety class annually.
Edit: that's in addition to the obvious, don't give them to criminals rule. Probably should require a weekly weapons check to make sure the guns are where they think they are and not stolen by someone who knows they have guns.
Well what do you consider annualy, you have to renew your FID card ever 4 years?.. but I get what your saying, that even if the gun isnt yours if you live in a house with it you have to take a class... but thats not very pratical.. for example. my father is no longer alowed to have guns.. but what would happen if I where to move in with him and bring my arms? Or what if you live in a large household and might have 7 or so people living with you... A gun is a tool, just like a hammer, or skill saw. If used properly there is no problem, if not I can be deadly
