Gut Brain Connection!!

Quote  |  Reply

As an RN I have recently learned quite a lot about our brain functions, and how it can regenerate new nerve pathways and regain some lost functions (after trauma or stroke occurs) and also to develop new ways of thinking, new habits, and MOODS.  WE CAN CHANGE OUR BRAINS!!  The food we eat is like a drug and will affect our mood (DEPRESSION) and brain function.  It is a 'no-brainer' that the food we eat affects our physical body and shape we are in, but did you know it affects the way we think and act?? Our gut produces 95% of our serotonin, and most other hormones.  The foods we eat, and the liquids we drink have an immediate affect on this production, in a good or bad way.  And when we are nervous, like when we get called to go to the principals office, we can feel it in our gut!!  The foods we eat are like DRUGS and if we eat the right foods (these are regular foods right at your local grocery store) we can eliminate medications and feel better!!  If anybody is interested in this type of information, I would be happy to post an article a week about different foods and how the body/brain is affected.  It is fascinating to me, and I have already changed some eating habits because of this.

changing the way we eat, literally changing our entire lifestyle is a must, but where do I start?

What foods helps with our serotonin? I didn't know it started in the gut!

I know if I started changing my eating habits I'd feel 100% better.

once again, where do I start?

I am sorry that I am so late in catching this post. I just came on  to CC about three weeks ago. Hope you are still learning and willing to share that knowledge. What you mentioned in your post sounds really interesting to me and I would love to see what articles you could provide.

I would be very interested in your articles about the connection between the brain and the gut. I always assumed that there was a connection because it is a feeling in my gut that causes me to want to eat. Not that I always do. I try to distract myself.

Looking forward to hearing  more.

Absolutely!!!!If food didn't work to calm our brain..nobody would use it as their drug of choice.. I love some good choices to turn off this serotonin connection!!!!
