"guys dig curves" garbage
Seriously people, whats with all this 'guys dig curves' garbage? Yea right! If guys dig curves, than why is the stick-thin image promoted? And why do guys only date mainly skinny girls whose legs don't even touch when they walk?
Anyone else in high school notice this? Do you think it's just our age?
I don't know...there are a LOT of asians at my high school, and a lot of asian's are TINY. Like, being over 110 pounds is considered on the "fat" side. No joke, I'd say at least 50% of the girls at our school can fit into a size 0 and most girls strut around in skinny jeans. So it's pretty hard to tell if the only choice the guys get are skinny girls!

Also, what about the lesbians on CC? Hm? Do girls dig curves?
Bisexual, but it works. Yes. I dig curves :D But the most beautiful thing is when a girl (or anyone, really) is comfortable with their body. But yes.
im bisexual as well. I go for curves. "thick" girls, but not chunky ones. =) Id prefer a thick girl to a thin one.
But of course im the hugest sucker for a great personality. that matters most.
I know this is an old thread but I have to post my two cents. Normal men seem to dig curves. Some guys like skinny, skinny women; some guys like really large women, but most guys like healthy weights on women.
When I met my husband, I was 5'8" and about 165 pounds. Now, at the time it was distributed really evenly so I had an hourglass figure, a rump and boobs up the wazz. He was hot for my stuff at first sight and this is a guy who had never dated seriously and never "gotten frisky" with girls/women until I met him - and he was 22 (senior year of college). Oh man. He loved my curves. We wound up pregnant that following May and he was hot for my curvaceous figure then. Then, after I had my baby, I lost weight. 55 pounds over 9 months. He loved me, he would be intimate with me, but he was not hot for the bod. I even let him take pictures occasionally.... just for fun.... and when I dropped below 129 he really didn't seem to want to look at them so much. Now, after my second, I'm very slight and athletic for my height and he loves me, is affectionate, but he doesn't look at me with that "I want that rumpy hot stuff" as much any more. He loves me, as I said, but he'd love me with 30 pounds.
He said he was in his psych class freshman year and the prof polled girls, then boys, about a spectrum of pictures of figures ranging from stick thin to obese. Girls responded to what guys would want with choosing the thinnest or second thinnest; most men chose just past center toward heavy.
It's a man's nature, even if he says he doesn't want babies or babies right now, to hunt for someone who looks fertile.
However, given how my husband and I are SOOO all done having babies, I'm surprised he's not into my infertile frame;-)
When they say that guys dig curves, they mean that guys dig skinny girls with big boobs and a big butt. It has nothing to do with having meat on their bones.. it has everything to do with male grossness.
Did I mention how much I hate men? I need to start finding women attractive or something.
curvy women .. overweight women... what is the difference?

Kate, that's not necessarily true. Curvy and overweight don't have to mean the same thing...but curvy can also be more than skinny with big boobs and a butt.

In my experience, guys who say they like curvy girls aren't actually into the curves and just generally healthy looking women, but they're into big boobs and big butts but expect the women to have a very small waist size. I doubt it's that way for ALL guys, but I'm just saying that is what I've experienced. I still think I need to figure out how to become a lesbian. Hypnotherapy?
This author may have a point http://www.femininebeauty.info/skinny-fashion -models, but I think its an oversimplification and a bit insulting to tall naturally skinny women because I think it implies that they would not and should not be attractive to straight men under normal circumstances, which is just as bs a generalisation as men like curvy/skinny women over skinny/curvy women. What defines skinny or curvy anyway? Eva Longoria is slender but she has curves. No one would say Salma Hayek is overweight and she has crazy curves. Charlize Theron, Scarlett Johannson, Liv Tyler, Jessica Alba, the list goes on and on. You can debate whether the media personifies or defines societal ideals, but I don't think these women are promoting starvation. They are not just sticks with boobs: they have thighs and tummies, they have muscles, and even cellulite.
People are attracted to other people for various reasons: biology, individual psychology, societal and cultural considerations. Generally speaking, men wont date women taller than themselves, and women are similarly picky about dating taller guys. Isn't this even more arbitrary than choosing a mate on weight? At least weight can be an indicator of health and therefore fertility, but you can be healthy at any height (dwarfism and giantism aside). Hair colour, skin tone, eye colour are all seemingly arbitrary, yet we will readily define these as parameters for our potential perfect mate. And then we meet Mr/Ms right who throws the equation on its head by not being any of the things we thought we were looking for. We are complicated little monkeys, thats for sure.
It has a lot to do with the waist-to-hip ratio. The closer women are to the ideal 0.7 waist-to-hip ratio, the more attractive they are to men. Many of the women adored by men nowadays, like Gisele Bundchen, Jessica Alba, etc. may look thin, but they all have about a 0.7 waist-to-hip ratio, so actually they can be considered curvy women.
Hmmm...I know I have an hourglass figure because my hips and shoulders measure exactly the same, and my stomach is small, but I don't know about 0.7...and I've heard that thing about guys liking women who look the most fertile. The same reason they choose younger looking women...wasn't it in that book The Naked Ape or something?
Adult men, sure...but it seems like the High School aged guys just want really tiny girls! I guess it's because they're not entirely grown up ...and I still say it's because they can't pick up a real woman yet =P
There may be hope for High School guys yet...it should be common knowledge that you should NEVER guess a woman's weight, because that's like stepping on a minefield, but it seems like guys like to do that "I bet I could guess your weight." thing when they flirt...probably because they wanna go like, 20 pounds lower and flatter the girl...but one of my guy-friends just out of the blue said he thought I weighed about 130 pounds, and we weren't even talking about weight...
Let the record show that I weigh 115 pounds. I said "I'm only 115 you -innapropriate word-"...he said that surprised him. He honestly did. He guessed that I was 15 pounds heavier than I am, and when I told him I wasn't, he said it "surprised him." His excuse was that he thought I was more muscle, but it was too late, the damage was done, and he kinda escaped once other people took over the conversation.
If you guess a girl's weight, and she's lighter than what you guessed, you NEVER say it surprises you!
Just in case any guys out there are confused xD
When guys say that they like curves, most of them mean they like big boobs/buttocks (voluptuous) not big stomachs/thighs (curves). But, then again, it depends on the guy.
My boyfriend of 2 years liked me back when i was 20 lbs heavier and he's joked with me that he actually misses some of my "fluff".
you guys are not talking about 150+ women here, are you?

I don't know a single man (besides Tom Brady) who is into Gisele. The girl is a twig. It's women who think she is so sexy.
Oh, and for what it is worth, my husband is definitely happier when my rump is bigger.

It depends. Some women(most taller ones) could carry 150+ lbs. Also, I have athletic friends that I know weigh over 150ish lbs but still look about 130-140 lbs. It all depends on what the person looks like.
Someone who is 150 lbs but doesn't exercise may look bigger than someone who is the same weight but more muscular.
Back to the question on hand. Personally, I think that it is a matter of perspective. Most guys fall into the "I want a thin to healthy-looking girl" category. However, there are also guys that are on the ends. Some only like thin girls, and others like a girl that is a bit bigger.
all i can say is if a guy doesn't like curves and prefers them skinny then what he really wants is a man.

O.o I never thought of that. It's possible though.

Oh yeah, sorry, I meant Adriana Lima. Men love her. I often confuse all those Brazilian models.
I remember talking to all my guy friends and them saying "they want something to hold on to" hahah.
Guys don't necessarily like skinny people. But they don't like overweight unhealthy ones either. I've had just as much luck 14 pounds lighter at 142 pounds as I did at 156. I work out and I have muscles.
My guy is really attracted to the fact that I lift weights so I'm in shape but I'm not really skinny. I don't personally think I'm at the right weight and that's why I'm dieting to be healthier but guys definitely don't only go after skinny girls.
The 'stick thin image' is not promoted because 'guys like it', it soley targets women, and makes the excuse that 'men like thin women' so that we will listen to those messages. Whether or not men actually do like thin women is irrelevent.
Some of these comments I find to be a little bit bothersome, because they are body-negative in the sense that they suggest that men only like curvy women and of course they don't like stick-thin women.
Some women are naturally thin. Some are thin because they starve. Some women are naturally overweight, and some are overweight because they eat too much. Saying negative things about thin women is just as judgemental and destructive as saying negative things about fat women. If a woman is thin it's because she denies herself the pleasure of eating whatever she wants and is superficial or obsessive, but a woman who is overweight is just 'healthy' and 'eats what she wants without guilt'. These are destructive assumptions, and we should really focus on embracing all body sizes.
The truth is, different men are attracted to different things, and yes, many men do like a woman with curves. On the other hand, some men prefer skinnier women. Is this preference for thinner women a result of media brainwashing? Maybe, maybe not, but it's unfair to make assumptions. Maybe it does have something to do with your age - even boys your age who do prefer curvier women may not admit it in fear that this strays from social norms.
I find that for the most part, men are attracted to good-looking girls with good personalities. For some men, good-looking can encompass a wide variety of body shapes and sizes. You can be a hot thin chick or a hot curvy chick, I mean, if you're hot then you're hot. But in any case, I can guarantee that you will come across many men in your time who love and appreciate your curves more than you can imagine, just give it some time.
