"Guys like girls with curves!"
Is it just me, or is this motto really just making one group of people happy, and another group (namely us smaller girls) insecure?
It seems very counter-productive to me. When I'm sure this comment is meant to make people like their bodies better, in reality in only makes me feel uncomfortable in mine.
I've never had "curves," and I probably never will. And while it may be true that guys like "curvy" girls better, I know lots of guys - specifically, most of my guy friends - that prefer thin girls. (Not bony, emaciated thin... you get my point.)
Wouldn't a better slogan for body peace be like, "beauty is in the eye of the beholder?" Or "every body type is beautiful?" I'm sure these have been used before, but I've never actually heard them said.
One day while I was reading in a magazine, I saw the quote, "Real women have curves!" And I almost cried.
Does anyone else feel this way?
flo101, i agree with u, but i guess this is some thing i want to do for myself, whether any one understands it or not. i have spent my life doing for every 1 else and leaving my wants and needs unmet, thus being even concerning food. so i am saying this is my time to do what i need for myself to make me happy, yes its bout the body shape and yes its about me being able to wear things, and last but not least, its some thing that would make me whole, for myself, i need this 2 make me happy..
I purchased 'curvy' in gap in a size 4. It is so frustrating to buy clothes because I am an extreme hourglass. Currently 25 inch waist 40 hips (I don't know my measurements back then, but I was the same proportions). So yes, non-fat girls do buy 'curvy'.
I wish more companies had 'curvy'. I can't buy shorts at H and M because the waist sizes go up but not the hips or thighs. I end up only fitting into a size 31 (waist) on my thighs, but having such a huge gap at the waist that it's not wearable.
My BF loves my curves btw. Whenever he finds out I'm losing weight, he reiterates, "make sure you do your squats so you can keep your butt."

Carramanna I'm with you. I'm slim but I have curves. My waist is not as small as yours (29/30) but I have problems with shorts/pants that fit my 40 hips but the waist is too big. Try www.pzijeans.com they make jeans/shorts for women with large butts, wide hips and small waist.
Wow, that company seems amazing! I just wish the sizes went a tad bit smaller because when I lose to my liking, I will probably be just a little under their size 4 (since they say extreme hourglasses should go a size smaller according to their size charts). They should get a size 2 and 0 for the really tiny curvy girls. Still love it. I'm thinking of trying some now that I can still fit. Thanks for the info jnetta!
I'm not saying that thin girls don't also purchase 'curvy' - just that I frequently see larger-sized women buying them, possibly because they're more generously cut in some areas and, perhaps, will allow someone who really should be wearing a 22 to purchase a 'curvy' 20 at Gap and feel good about themselves that they "finally fit into xxxxx brand" or could "finally shop at xxxx store.".. and since they may feel that those pants fit the best (i.e. the smallest size, whether they look/feel the best or not), they may bestow the label 'curvy' to themselves.
That's all I'm saying.. regarding both the "big girls calling themselves curvy instead of outright fat" (not a direct quote by anyone..) situation and the post from carmanna.
