Ok, you guys have probably read all of the Harry Potter books.. *SPOILERS* details & ending are mentioned
**spoilers if you haven't read the Half Blood Prince**
So don't tell me what happens next! lol I'm on the Half Blood Prince and I have 4 more chapters to go.
- I'm anxious to know if Hermione and Ron will every actually admit that they like each other
- I giggled out loud when Harry kissed Ginny!
- I can't believe that Snape (so far) has lied the whole time and earned the trust of Dumbledore when he's still loyal to Voldemort
- What is Malfoy up to and is he really a death eater? I wonder if he will be the one who kills Harry in the end?
Ok, so tonight's chapter is the Lighting-struck Tower... I can't believe we read this book so fast.
So, since you guys know all these answers, does it drive you nuts that you can't tell me??? lol

Nope. Doesn't bother me one bit. *grin*
Ok tell me!
.. NO! Don't do it! I must read it for myself... (slapping hands)
((But THEY all know the answers!)) I must know!
NO, don't tell me!
OMG!!! I have to disable the e-mail notifications, if I wasn't notified I'd be in blissful ignorance that you have yet to finish the books.
And your questions... aaarrggh - Restrain me someone!! I want to tell her... please let me... ppuuuhhhllleeaaassse.
I did the pre- order thing with the half blood prince and the deathly hallows. I was there when the store opened and both times I brought a packed lunch and went straight to Hyde Park and didn't move till I had finished the book.
Sitting in a city park laughing almost hysterically in some parts and weeping, sobbing in others, amongst city workers on their lunch breaks is quite liberating. The books are THAT good that I just didn't care if they called the police to report some crazy woman in the park!!!
I have found at the very end, some of my friends didn't get the big picture and I had to explain it to them. Maybe it's just my friends... that's probably it.
Enjoy your reading, you will lose many calories from laughter and much fluid from weeping.
Awesome books....
OH madam_captain... I just finished The Half Blood Prince. My throat is sore from trying to hold back the tears as I read the last two chapters aloud to my son. I can't belive Dumbledore is gone.... I love him so much! When they said that his picture was already up in the Headmaster's office I was hoping that he would speak some last words or encouragement - say something! The other pictures talk.. so I'm hoping that he will be able to in the next book?
Bill's face is a mangled mess and Fleur still loves him. Tonks loves Lupin!! Holy cow that was a shock. Harry broke it off with Ginny to protect her and now Hogwarts might not reopen. I'm so sad! How will Harry be able to find the 4 Horocruxes when he could barely manage without Dumbledore's help trying to find the locket? Who is R.A.B?
And Snape! I knew he was bad but I still had a glimmer of hope that he would end up being OK since Dumbledore still trusted him. To have Dumbledore plead to him and realize that he was bad right before his death.. Grrrr! I feel so betrayed!
Now I know why you were so eager to get the books and read them all in the park! I actually bought the first 4 books when my son was pretty little.. I don't remember how old he must have been (2, 3, 4?) but they sat, sealed in the box set, waiting for the day when he was old enough to enjoy them.. so I'm glad I waited. When we finished the book I tucked him in and he said I was the best mom ever <3. I hope one day he'll have a child of his own and he'll want to read them the Harry Potter books and he'll remember fondly of the hours we spent reading together.
Ok, I'm so emotional! I have got to try and get some sleep so I can go to work tomorrow... Whah!![]()
J-the-P, I HAVE to suggest that if you're reading it aloud to your son you read ahead. If I had to read it aloud no one would understand what I was saying through the blubbing. Get the tears out BEFORE you read it to him, that way your vocal expression won't be lost.
I think I'll hang out more with my nephew and read them to him. Give my sister a night off every week and babysit them and read them in installments.
After I finished 1/2 Blood Prince I had a competition with a friend. Whoever could guess who RAB was correctly won a bottle of jagermeister and a case of beer - the loser had to buy it. Before the last book was released we wrote it on a peice of paper, put it in separate envelopes and gave them to another friend. I won. I didn't guess the middle initial but I got who it was. All the clues are there.
Let's face it I obviously had WAY too much time on my hands back then!!!!
I went through a bit of a goth phase when I was in high school - not a popular lass, me - so I NEVER beleived that Snape was trully bad. I SO get your betrayal. I felt gutted when I finished that book.
The last book really does blow you away! Your heart will be wrenched out, shoved in again, only to be wrenched back out and shoved back in again - topical cream will then be applied before you go through it all again at the end. JK must've had a storyline right from the beginning. Nothing insignificant was put in - everything means something in the end. It's so very well layed out and written. (I became quite **** watching the movies because important things were omitted.) But strangely enough I found myself annoyed when the bloody studios put the release date back by 7 MONTHS!!!!!
Anyhoo, you sound like you're loving it so I'd better shut up before I let something slip.
Keep us updated on your progress, it does take longer to read when you're doing it aloud but your son's reaction is enough to keep going, but really, read a bit ahead so you can brace yourself.

The clues are there.. Ok, now I'm on a mission! R.B., R.B... Remus, Ron..um, shoot - I'm going to have to search back for all the R names and figure this out!
I do skim ahead so I know who's saying what first, since I've been reading daily to Joseph for 10 yrs I'm pretty quick at doing that so I can get the right character's voice! :D I didn't blubber while reading but I strained too hard not to. At one point I took a breather and my son laughed at me..haha But it was after he was in bed that I went outside and thought about it more... then got on cc: and had to tell you!
I think it's a GREAT idea to read them to your nephew. It's something he'll always remember doing with you and it helps to spark that love of reading! :D
I can't read ahead though... there's no time and if Joseph caught me reading it w/o him he would be MAD! lol It's our 'thing' I guess.
I agree about the movies... I saw the first movies and liked them but I didn't LOVE them because some parts just didn't make sense! Well, after reading the books I now know why. The did a pretty good job on the first movie but the others left out so much info! And why did they take Dobby out of all the movies? I was really looking forward to seeing the 1/2 blood prince in November too! Darn it!
Don't think "R" names, think surnames!!! You'll hit it immediately.
I know about the getting mad thing, with reading ahead. I AM reading a book to my nephew in stages at the moment - when I'm there. It's called "George's secret key to the Universe". It's a book that introduces some pretty lofty physics topics but it's about a boy and his pet pig. It was written by Stephen Hawkings and his daughter Lucy for children, I guess to get them into science. Anyway, my sister asked if she could read him the next chapter and he wouldn't let her... it's an "Auntie Lan" thing!
Dobby. Aaaahhh Dobby. Saw the first two movies, if the truth be told, before I started the books. Didn't like Dobby 'till I actually read it. Love Dobby. That was one of those "very important" bits I mentioned before.
I love this, chatting to you about it. It's like reading it all for the first time again. OOOhhhh, you'll love it.
It's my younger nephews birthday tomorrow, Frank, he's 3. Callum, the eldest turned 6, 2 weeks ago and his baby sister , 1, a week before that. October is a busy month! When I start the HP's i'll be reading to them both. After Mr & Miss Hawkings.
Time for the 'ol beauty sleep!
Black? Someone in Sirius's family?? dah! I was so close to googling it but I refrained and will just read the book. haha
I'm with you, I didn't care for Dobby much in the movie either besides him being kinda cute... but after reading the books I love him! I love how he called Ron Harry's Wheezy in the Goblet of Fire and how he wore all of Hermiones knitted hats and how much he loves socks. :)
That's great that you have your Auntie Lan thing! :D
So, I've read the first 4 chapters of Deathly Hollows. I'll get back to you once I read a bit more! I love talking about it too!
Jen,
(UHHH............)
You don't know how close you are about RAB. Wait, there are more suprises to come, including deaths. You know how on the Map its Moony, Wormtail Padfoot and Prongs: well so far Prongs died then Padfoot. I'm re-reading DH so I have forgotten alot of it. I can't wait for the movie to come out. It's so sweet how you read to your son, I was so scared of the books when I was that young. I heart Dobby. even if saving Harry almost killed Harry in the 2nd book.
Sorry I've not been chatting lately. One of my two "familiars" (witch or wizards pet) has died and I haven't felt like doing anything. Sebastian was with me for seven years. He was beautiful. My Hedwig has gone. I'm so very sad.
JtheP, how's the book going?
HPR, the book is very sad. But after having read it a few times it doesn't lose it's impact.
Hope all is well in your world.
Alanna
Well Moody is dead, Hedwig is dead, Dumbledore's dead... I miss the school and Hagrid and Professor McGonagal!
As for the book.. we are on Chapter 21 I think... Ron left angry which made me sad but I was super happy when he came back and saved Harry's life! I'm trying to figure out where the silver doe patronus came from...
Last nights chapter was Xenophilias Lovegood in which they discussed the triangle rune and what the Deathly Hollows were... and then to find out he called the ministry! I am sad that Luna has been captured though.... I hope they make it out safely.
So, I was right about RAB being a Black! It was Sirius' brother! I can't believe that Kreacher ended up rather nice and I actually grew fond of him... I feel awful that they can't get word to him and that he has been in the house not knowing about them.
Anyway, we're 1/2 finished with the book and they've only killed one Horocrux! Either the rest are going to be rushed through.. or, Harry doesn't get to finish the job? Who knows....

You sound so depressed!!! It is a bit of a bummer (hi there, understatement!).
LOL Well I love the books I just wish so many people weren't dead! I felt better last night when Ron finally got Potterwatch on the radio and I was able to hear familiar voices like Fred, Kingsley, Lupin and the kid from school.. it wasn't Dean Thomas? I forget. Anyway, I laughed when they said Hagrid's on the run for having a Harry Potter Party (try saying that fast 3 times in a row!). But Harry said Voldemort's name and now the tent's surrounded!!!! I can't wait to hear how they get out of this one.
How did you guys feel? Do you think it's overkill on the deaths? (no pun inteneded). Did you find yourselves missing the good ol' days back at Hogwarts? I miss the students and the teachers and the ghosts.. even Peeves!
Oh, I definitely was longing for the days of pranks and trips to Hogsmede. But it WAS a war, and I think the author made it very clear that bad things were going to happen.
Madam, I'm very sorry about Sebastian. It is very difficult to lose a beloved pet.
Now Dobby's dead! I can't take it. I know it's war but couldn't she have killed off more unknowns that our favorites??? Like Pansy Parkinson.. take her! Not Dobby....
Six more chapters left of the Deathly Hallows. Wow! Last night's chapters were AMAZING! It was when Harry, Ron, Hermoine went to Hogsmead and set off the curfew curse.. then they met Aberfoth and saw Neville.. got into Hogwarts to see all the old faces.. etc. Oh, seeing (reading) Prof. McGonagal again was great! And everyone's showing up to fight! Rally troops!!! Fred, George, and even PERCY!!! I got very emotional when Percy came back.. I was so happy!
Anyway, six more chapters.. I'm going to go through withdrawls when the books are over.
