Guys. You've heard it a million times, but check it.

Hey

I know most of you will be familiar with the point that we young'uns burn more calories, but I never realised just how large the difference can be.  This link has been on Pandajen's 'rules for the forum' post, which is where I found it, but I know some people (me included until this afternoon) never get round to using the links on it.

What I want to know is this - were you surprised when you saw how many calories you need to maintain your weight?

Calculator and calorie information for Teens

Using the adult tools on CC+, I was told I needed 1900 calories.  On the teen site, it says I need 3100!!! Guys, all of you please, just check it - these growing muscles need food!

but thanks for trying to help! : D

Try this one:

calculator

It will tell you your BMI as well as the amount of calories that you need.

Or you can go to www.kidsnutrition.org and scroll down to the bottom right hand side and you will see both calculators.  :)

lol, i dont even have a messed up comp! hehe

2400?!? are they having a bubblebath? Thats to maintain, thats how I got to this size in the first place!
you know I'm going to try this, if you subtract 500 cals off thats a lb a week so to lose a lb a week I would need 1900 cals. That is ridiculous but lets try this method out.

try 1800. &i mean c'mon, when i start dieting the weight doesnt come off for a few weeks. it takes like 3 weeks then i'll lose like 4 pounds. so yeah try it out. but give it a bit of time

Eh, this gives me almost the same as adult calculators, give or take 100 calories or so. I guess 'cause I'm sixteen and hopefully done growing. Most put me at 1950ish for maintenance, this one puts me at 2000. So my caloric goals are basically the same-- no less than 1200, no more than 1500 (no more than about 1900 to feel good on maintenance days). But thanks for the link, I've been trying to figure out if my caloric needs are much different since this site is geared towards adults.
2400 - 500 is 1900 not 1800.
2200... thats reasonable because i do intend to contine growing (!) but i'm never that hungary!!!!!

yea, i know. but, if i were you i'd try 1800 :)

1810

i really don't burn much lol. but i guess i'm good; i usually eat around there.

3500 even with exercise I'd consider that a binge,
well i dunno that wouldnt make a vast difference in the course of a week. 500 cals x 7 is 3500 yeah. so itd only be an extra 700 cals off which isnt even a lb of weight. I've been aiming for 1250 in the past, now thats gotta be starvation!!
