How long do you spend in the gym each week?

I go 6 times a week for 1.5 hours each. This is still new to me (only been going a week) so I hope I can keep it up..

I go to the gym 3 days a week for 30 minutes to do strength training (weights).  I sometimes replace this with a 30-60 minute class offered at the gym.

I also go to the local track 3 days a week for 60 minutes - which sometimes are on the same day as my gym workouts.  Sometimes I'll do my cardio at the gym, which I tend to cut to only 30 minutes - I don't like being inside breathing recycled air for that long.

And lastly, once a week I take a bike ride on one of the local trails.

So, as confusing as this may be - here is a typical week for me.

Sunday - 30-60 minutes at the gym,

Monday - 30 minutes at the gym, 60 minutes at the track,

Tuesday - 30-60 minutes at the gym,

Wednesday - 60 minutes at the track,

Thursday - day of rest

Friday - 30-60 minutes at the gym, 60 minutes at the track.

Saturday - bike ride

Do whatever feels right.  I've found that it's best to give myself a minimum time - ie. 30 minutes for strength training - and then a maximum time - ie. 30 minutes for strength training, and 60 minutes for cardio, for a total of 90 minutes at the gym/track.  You don't have to go for 1.5 hours every day - but it looks like you are off to a great start if you committed to that for an entire week!

However, when you get busy it can be overwhelming to committ to 1-2 hours at the gym, so keep it simple and let it be okay to just go to the gym for 30 minutes a day, every day and to alternate cardio one day, strength another day, etc.  That's how I started out - and I've grown into the schedule I mentioned above once I got comfortable with making fitness training a bigger part of my life and schedule.

Good luck!
Hi tiger_lily!  Sounds like you are really getting some good workouts in!  I never know quite how to phrase this - I don't want to discourage you from exercising, certainly.  But, I do wonder if you might be starting out a big too aggressively.  It's great what you are doing, please don't think otherwise!!  It can be tough though to stick with a routine that strenuous when you first start out.

So, if it works for you, absolutely go for it and keep it up.  But, if it starts to wear on you, please give yourself permission to back off a bit.  I know if I had tried that in my first week I might not have made it to my second.  :)  Not everyone is the same though.  Just do what feels good for you, and what will keep you going back to the gym week after week after week.  It's more important to make it a lifelong habit than anything else.  :)
I gym twice a week, since there's no elliptical at my gym, I usually hit stairmaster or treadmill for about 35 - 45 min, plus stretching, I would stay up to an hour at the gym.
Right now, I'm there about an hour (give or take).  I do 30-45 mins on the resistance machines and currently 20 mins on the treadmill.  I am working on increasing my time on the treadmill, so my time at the gym will also increase.  I have also been increasing both the amount of weight and number of reps on the resistance machines, so again, my time will increase as those do.  Also, depending on how I feel after the resistance and treadmill, I will sometimes do 10 mins on the elliptical.  Oh, and on average, I go to the gym 3 or 4 times a week (every other day).

Hi everyone! I joined snap fitness back in november. I currently go 3-4 times a week. I do 30 mins on the eliptical, and 10 mins on the stair stepper. 20 mins on strength training. I'm so glad i found this website.
6 days a week/ 1.5-2 hours. I alternate heavy weight and heavy cardio days.
I usually go to the gym 3-5 times a week for an hour everytime.
4 days per week.
Lift 3 days and do 40 minutes of cardio Thursday through Monday. I hate cardio too!!!

tiger_lily82, you're doing great!!! but as pandajenn19 said, don't push it too much so early, the key is being able to maintain your routine and slowly increase your time as you get stronger and fitter.

because i have so much energy, i usually do 2 hours on monday, one cardio and one strength conditioning, 1 hour of conditioning on tuesday, 2 hours again on wednesday cardio & strength conditioning, thrusday 1 hour interval training, and fridays i sometimes rest or do 1 hour of strength conditioning. when im in vacation i go crazy @ the gym...i do about 4 hours/day,5 days a week,  but that's just me...i love cardio workouts, but i hate working out alone so i do all the classes i like.
jillys, I joined Snap Fitness too just in October!  I love that place!   It's never crowded and I can go whenever I want!

I go to the gym nearly every day.  Some days I'll even go twice!  I go every morning during the week before work.  I'm usually there from 5:15 to  6:00ish.  I usually do about 25-30min on the ArcTrainer then 10-15min on the treadmill.   More recently I've been working on making weight training more routine.  The current idea I'm working on is that Monday and Wednesday mornings I do weights.  Typically 15min on the ArcTrainer for warm up and then about 20-30min for weights; upper one day and lower the other.  I'm also trying to work in more core exercizes.

Weekends I get carried away and will find myself lost at Snap for nearly 2 hours if I'm not paying attention!
