i guess this comes under general issues...
how much do you pay per month for your gym memberships?
i just been quoted one and wasnt to sure whether it was a good deal or not. its a first generation club, with access to all the classes free, pool, courts, gym, spa etc.
i got a discount because im a teacher and also because its a couples membership...
£58.50 per month.... is that reasonable????

I would think so. I pay 90/month for my family to belong to a full service club here in indianapolis....
My gym's standard membership costs $425 per year per person... family
memberships work out to less per person. But several times a year
he runs $325 per-person sales, which work out about the same as a
family membership... so we stock up during the sales. So I pay about
$27 per month. It's actually not the cheapest gym in the area...
this one just has a super atmosphere, so that I go for the social part
as much as the exercise. The cost of gas to get there is more than the
gym fee!
I pay $19/month at Planet Fitness. It's really small though, the only extra is tanning. No classes, pool, or anything like that.
I pay almost the same for the same...teacher discount, couple membership...full service gym (trainers not included) $55.00 per month, oh ya starting in May I had to pay tax another 4.25 so its up to $59.25 a month now. hhhmmmm fat tax, workout tax, probaly sales tax but what did i buy? services? time? privilege? they never stop figuring ways to take your money.
The Lucille Roberts I go to is $299 for a year, plus an additional 6 months "free." So it comes out to around $17 a month. The registration fee ranges from $0 to $40 depending on the sale, and to be a gold member (extra classes, can go to any location) is $20 at sign-up. They don't have any pools or wood floor studios (MAJOR downside for my dance background), but you can get a quality workout if you know what you're doing.
So, the original post was in British pounds, not dollars. This means that at the current exchange rate bunnyish was quoted about $120 per month for her gym. Uhh, yeah, even though things are more expensive across the pond, that's unreasonable. Unless it's, like, Wellness Shangri-La or something.
In Atlanta, I consider anything under $90 per month to be reasonable. Then again, I pay $25 for the unversity staff and faculty gym, so I'm spoiled.
$32/mo
includes 2 free personal training sessions and a ton of free classes.
no pool though, which is sad.
but i enjoy it! :)
hey, well my local gym which is all inclusive, with 3 personal trainer sessions and all classes etc is £35 a month. i was a member of a Topnotch gym in northants a year or so ago, that was about £40 a month, but was REALLY nice, and the budget one i was with before that was £20 a month, but no where near the standard of the others, or the services of the others. also i get a student dscount, so probably similar to your teachers discount
I pay about £55 per month for one of the David Lloyd's in Solihull (quite affluent area in the West Mids). It's allegedly a corporate rate but I don't think there's much of a discount. This one doesn't have all the courts and stuff but I prefer it because the pool is quiet in a morning before work and that's where I do most of my exercise. The other David Lloyd nearby has all the courts but the pool isn't as nice, so I guess it depends on your preference. I also checked out a Virgin one nearby which was about the same price but I just didn't like the feel of it. The gym seemed full of posers! I guess you just have to find something that you're comfortable with - if you don't like going it will be harder to motivate yourself.
We have many gyms in my area and they are usually advertising around $30 a month with a free signup. They have the works, weights, machines, classes, showers, sauna (just one has this), etc. If you shop around you can get a good deal. I cancelled my membership though cuz I never went. Everytime I ride by on my bike I'm happy I'm not paying them to sweat and workout "inside."
I only pay 40$ a year for my university gym... whether I want to use the gym or not. But the insane tuition I have to pay more than makes up for it.
My Bannatyne's membership (£45/month) runs out in September so I want to join David Lloyds because it's much closerto where I live. I went to have a look round the one at the weekend and it was £72.50/month for the full membership (including racquets). I think it was about £64 without the racquets, so I don't think yours is too bad!
i think a lot of you must not be in major metropolis' i live in nyc and while i pay $85 a month there are many gyms which are $130+ a month (LA fitness, equinox etc) and a few lower (notably new york health and racquet club). its unreasonable for anyone not in a major city to say that his membership is unreasonable. i think its perfectly legit for london proper or suburbs.
Hey jt1226 where do you go? I go to equinox and it is really expensive. $135 a month but it is worth it:)
Hi - I pay £32.50 for my gym membership in Somerset which includes any time in the gym, use of the swimming pool and all the classes which I think is not bad. I have just joined this site today and am really impressed. Only want to lose 5 lbs, but it still seems a mammoth task. Jackie, UK.
If you can, investigate university gyms. I work at a uni so it was the obvious choice, but anyone can join and lots of local businesses have agreements so staff get discounts. If you're just a person off the street, you can join for 12 months for £300, staff & students pay £199. It's not a huge gym, but do bear in mind it's in the centre of London so prices are probably higher than a lot of other universities.
