My hair is falling out.
Like, A LOT. Its really, really bothering me. My hair was my only good feature, it was what gave me the majority of my self esteem, and now its all thin and gross and I dont even know what I'm going to do. I'm pretty sure its because of anxiety; I have a history of severe anxiety attacks and I looked it up on webmd and its another symptom. Does anyone know if I can get it to stop before I'm completely bald? I've tried everything I can to calm down and be less wound up about everything, but i cant really help the anxiety I'm experiencing.
Thanks.
Are you underweight? Or were you in the past few months? They say your hair/nails are a sign of your body's health 3-6 months ago..
No, I've been a healthy weight for over a year now.
This has happened to me twice, both times due to stress. I remember almost throwing up one time when I got out of the bathtub and saw how much hair was in the tub. And of course brushing my hair made me so upset. I could just run my fingers through my hair and a bunch of hairs would fall out.
I hate to say it, but my hair only stopped falling out after I resolved the things that were stressing me out. I know this isn't the answer you're looking for, but it was the only thing that worked for me.
I would recommend talking to your hairdresser, though. There might be some things you can do to minimize the hair loss.
I know one supplement that will help - fish oil. fish oil actually is great for many different things, but one of its benefits is that gives you stronger hair and nails.
I'm sorry this is happening to you - I completely understand how you feel :( Hang in there, and talk to your doctor if things get worse!!!
I'm really glad I saw this post. I'm having the same thing happen to me. My hair is also my best physical attribute. I hate to see the glob of hair in my drain. In fact, it's so bad, I put liquid plummer down the drain last night to make sure the drain doesn't clog!
I really appreciate your Fish Oil suggestion. My Dr has told me that I am vitamin D deficient, but she isn't sure that this deficiency would cause me to lose hair. I have to agree that in my case this is most likely stress. I have had nothing but stress with my husband recently. Even daily meditation isn't working. I guess it's time to just let go. Some things I just can't change, for that matter, some people too!
another sufferer here! Mine was also linked to stress, I had it really bad whilst at uni and tbh was not eating the greatest nutritional stuff at the time either! Also, do you dye your hair? because this would be another factor...
Try Nioxin hair products. Also, take a multi-vitamin religiously. This helped mine out (it's since grown back & thick again).
Have you ever had your thyroid levels checked? I had hair loss when I had thyroditis and during treatment for it. My hair is nice and thick again now.
First off, let me say you are a very beautiful girl and if you were bald you probably still would be!!
In the past have you been eating relatively low calorie? Typically when people eat very low calorie for an extended amount of time (around 6 months or so) their hair starts to fall out - it takes six months or so for the body to realize the lack of calories which is why this may have not occurred when you first adopted a low calorie diet.
Now if it's not because of your calories, it could be the foods you are eating or more like the foods you're not eating. You might be missing vital nutrients. I think if you got a blood test that would help solve the mystery... The tests would show you how your thyroid is functioning and if you were/are deficient in any vitamins and minerals.
Oh and you should probably calm down about it a bit because stress tends to cause hair loss too!!
HI,
Sorry to hear that. I am going through it right now, too, and also was very proud of my ultra-thick head of hair. Hair loss is alarming! Mine is not as thick anymore,, but I think the amount of hair falling out is decreasing after about two months.
I followed Atkins for about three months in the Spring. I dropped a quick ten lbs. Then the hair started falling out. I stopped Atkins and I was told the cycle of hair loss would last about three months. It seems to be true. Thyroid is possible, or some shock to the system (stress, rapid weight loss) or hormonal changes (having a baby, menopause). But, the good news is the body has ways of recovering from this and your hair loss will probably run its course and then recover. I think it's good advice to have your thyroid checked.
Thanks everyone for your comments :) They've helped a lot and I'm pretty sure its due to stress, but at least now I know it'll go away in a couple months or so.
Thanks again :)
