hair health when recovering from anorexia

Quote  |  Reply

hey all,

for all the ED recoverer's out there, I had a question for you. how long did it take after your recovery for your hair to stop falling out and to start getting healthier?

I have been taking a "hair-force" multivitamin 3 times a day for almost 3-4 weeks now, as well as 4 salmon oil capsules, and haven't noticed any improvements yet. I was thinking of starting to drink soy protein shakes as well to get more protein throughout the day, do you think this will help? Can anyone share their experiences with regaining the health of their hair & nails? thank you. <33

It depends on the lenght of your hair.  Protein helps, b/c hair and nails is just "dead protein" anyway.  It is a slow process, hair grows about 1/2" per month so it will take at least 3-4 months for it to get better at scalp (no more patchiness or thin spots) but for shoulder length hair it takes about a year...sucks!  Nails take about 4 months to be "normal" again.
Thanks for the reply. I'll definitely make sure I get more protein (although i'm not sure how much I should have... right now I'm aiming for 60grams a day). My hair is currently pretty long, down to my chest, it's just that it's very dry and thin now. So I guess layers are in my future, huh? :P  did you notice your hair getting stronger, shinier, breakage stopping, anything like that? it's still a dry mess and i can't do anything with it at the moment.
