I've got wavy hair. Looks really messy unless I straighten it, which I do almost every day. I really want to make it a pretty wavy. Like this:

When i try to use a curler, it doesn't stay. When I wash my hair at night and braid it and undo the braids in the morning, they look uneven and messy. Hair products never seem to work. Obviously I'm either using the wrong stuff / not doing any of it right.

Help?

Have you tried hot rollers?

How about asking your hair stylist? That picture you linked is curled (with a curling iron or hot rollers)... that's not natural wave.

After you wash your hair and go to dry your hair, pat it dry with a towel while scrunching with the towel (don't rub or anything) and comb it (do not brush). With it semi-dry/damp, spray in some waves of envy by Sunsilk and let it air dry. Then you've got some nice waves/curls combos. Works for me every time.

I used to use Burt's Bees shampoo but it made my hair very frizy/fluffy. I started using Herbal Essence's frizy shampoo and conditioner and it's, like, the best thing ever for people with frizy hair.

As others mentioned, that is not wavy hair, that's hair curled with an iron.

Edit: I like messy hair, so I don't mind having beachy crazy messy waves. Easier to maintain too.
