has anyone experienced this whilst dieting? i am quite cocnerned i have very thick hair but i have been shedding atleast 200 hairs a day for a month. i think it is half stress related due to stuff a few months back and half my bad diet a few months back.
anyone else had a phase of hair shedding? and how long did it last? any foods to help at all?
i eat a good balance get 2000 calories a day without much exercise and im heathy now, and take b vitamins for hair and nails...
I have dark hair and I notice that I lose about 20 hairs on my clothes in the morning. I used to think it was excessive but I still have very healthy hair. 200 is a lot- maybe eat more protein?
a lot of people might think it'ls bc of lack of protein... but it can also be from a lack of fat in your diet. during my anorexic stage, i was losing around 150 hairs a day. for about a year!!! :( i felt horrrible about myself. but i WAS getting enough protein (60 grams/day) from egg whites, tofu, etc. when i tried to recover, i kept everything the same EXCEPT that i added 15 almonds, 15 cashews, 1-2 tbs of pb to my diet a day (sometimes less, like 10 nuts each). after three months of doing that (which is how long your hair taks to respond to a change in diet or lifestyle), my sheddidng has slowed down. yeah, it still does fall out, but only like 10 or 15 MAX per day. i hope this helps! Oh, and take a multivitamin just in case:)
People lose an average of 100 hairs a day (sorry, cheergirl). Maybe because you noticed it at one point, you've now started kind of looking for it... therefore it appears like you're losing all of your hair.
I have this problem bad, and I definately lose more than 100 strands a day. My hair has always been fine, but lately it's been pretty bad since I've lost a bit of weight, and when I wash my hair it's more like I'm cleaning out a drain, UHG, it's so gross.
god yeh i no what you mean with washing..i get that to, i dread washing it sometimes...ughhh i think il just have to wait it out, hopefully it will adjust within a month or so.hope yours gets better to!

haha i'm sure that may be true.. but i'm talking about like 100 hairs right after i take a shower/ brush my hair! not to mention all the hair that fell out during the day... now its 10-15 after my shower so i'm happy :)
I had really thick hair as a kid. All the way up until I was 15 (3 years ago), it was so thick I went through like 2 packages of hair bands a month. They'd all snap because they couldn't hold it all!
Then, I started shedding a little more. It was still really thick, but slightly less so. And then when I started dieting last year, I started losing a lot of hair. But. I talked to my doctor and she said that women generally lose 100-150 strands of hair a day, but that it can be more during times of physical emotional stress. Your body is physically stressed right now because it's not used to operating on fewer calories.
You'll still shed after your body gets used to it, but probably a little less. And don't worry, you're not going bald. xD
