Half a Fruit?

Quote  |  Reply
I often see that people only eat half a banana, peach, apple, kiwi, etc.

I like eating half a fruit too, as I like a lot of variety.

But I never know what to do with the other half of the fruit?? For example you throw half a kiwi, apple and banana and strawberries into your oatmeal - what do you do with the rest of your banana/kiwi/apple??  (or any other fruit - peach, mango, etc)

You could always save it for the next day?

I'm not a half a fruit eater, so I really don't know what to tell ya. I've never seen someone eat half of a fruit before either.

I do know that half a fruit is a 'serving' of fruit tho. I can imagin putting half a banana in my oatmeal too..

I like to make a big bowl of fruit salad with a few pieces to last me through a week. I enjoy variety too.

Fruit is so healthy and so very good for you that I err on the side of eating more fruit rather than less (never half!).  If I'm a little over my caloric intake for the day, I figure the vitamins and fiber make up for it.  Kind of like the net carb rule for South Beachers where carbs-fiber=total carbs.  I tend to be a little crazy and say that total fiber helps negate a few of the calories.

I'm a loyal oatmeal fan, so I totally know where you're coming from.  A whole large-sized banana in a bowl of oatmeal would just overwhelm the oats, change the entire texture, etc...

I suggest slicing up the other half and freezing it.  Fruit-ice-cubes are great for a last minute smoothie; as my smoothies aren't typically planned events, having frozen fruit on hand is a life saver.

Or, you could always share with your family / classmates / etc...

Probably not helpful for you but doing this is super easy if you're a mom. As a matter of fact I can never eat ALL of anything, I have 2 greedy beggars standing under me screaming for half of anything I eat. I haven't been able to eat a whole banana in peace in 4 years. I suppose I should thank them??

I used to eat half a fruit (especially bananas) when I had somebody to share the other half.  My daughter and I would split a banana at breakfast.

But now I just eat the whole thing and pay close attention to my calorie intake.  I just fit it in because I know it's good for me.

etahbear - I had to smile at your comment! :)

That used to be me when I was younger.... my mom/dad would cut a fruit and I'd be begging for some.

Haha! How the times change....

what you do with the peach/mango/banana is you freeze it and make it into a smoothie or stir it into yogurt(it gives it an almost icecream -like texture if you eat full fat yogurt) for the next day

as for the apple you can refrigerate it in a zip-loc and eat it the next day as well.

You can freeze it, but with some fruits there are ways to keep them fresh... for a banana, don't take the whole thing out of the peel. Cut it in half and then peel and eat the half you want..the unpeeled half can get some plastic over it and go right into the fridge.

You can keep half an apple fresh by dipping the exposed parts in lemon or lime juice.

For others, try sharing the fruit with someone else in the house. ^^

the only fruit I've ever eaten half is bananas, and I usually freeze them in the first place, so i just put the other half back in the freezer. if they weren't frozen beforehand, I'll share with anyone who wants it, or just wrap it in clingwrap and freeze it (then use in a smoothie, oatmeal, etc or just eat it by itself).

I usually buy the pre-cut cups of fruit (watermelon, pineapple, stuff like that) in the produce section so I don't have to worry about not eating all of it.
