Halloween, it's getting close. I am getting worried. HELP
I have been working on getting the kids stuff ready for Halloween. Today for some reason I have done nothing but think about chocolate candy bars. I actually cried because I want one so badly. I have not had anything sweet in 3 weeks and I had been doing fine until today. In the past I looked forward to Halloween just knowing all that chocolate was going to in my daughters bag. Well this year I will have 2 kids trick or treating..my 14month old! I have never given her chocolate (except icecream) and I just know I will dig thru her bag. I just need some motivation to get thru this. I am afraid if I eat just one it will lead to 20.
Reason: 10/20/08: Stickied for one week; 10/28/08 unstickied.
no reason why you cant have a mini chocolate bar to satisfy your craving, it'll help you from eating a bit too much of something else maybe.
100 calories from chocolate if fine, just go for a walk while eating it or something lol. a small chocolate CAN easily fit into your caoric intake for the day! just dont go over board.
We never get trick or treaters at our house but I always feel obligated to buy candy to hand out. So all left for me to eat. So I am struggling this year with what to buy. I have been doing really well and have not had a whole candy bar since July. I have had a left over bite here and there from a friend or my daughter. But wow what do I buy?
Why does a baby who's only just over one year old NEED to go trick-or-treating? If you are that worried about eating her candy, don't take her... Or take her around and show her off in her cute costume, but just don't take any candy for her - it's not like she's old enough to choose it for herself, or to even know what she's missing out on. There is no law that says that you HAVE to give candy to your infant just because it's Halloween (or Christmas, or their birthday...) Until they're old enough to ask for it by name, they're not old enough to need it.
As for craving candy bars yourself, if you want one that badly, eat it! Just make sure that you log it honestly. Why torture yourself by saying 'I can't ever have this again' when what you really need to say is 'I can have X amount of chocolate without affecting my diet.'
Thank you for the replies. I talked with my husband about it and he said that maybe this weekend we could maybe split a candy bar. And I wouldnt and hadnt planned on giving my infant candy, but she will want to trick or treat like her big sister. Thanks again.
what keeps me from wanting any halloween candy is that they are no longer made with real chocolate (which is why they are now called chocolate candy instead of just chocolate)..... I think to myself- if I am going to "cheat" it better be on something good and satisfying... fake chocolate isn't worth it to me :) but that is just me....
I have been worried about Halloween too, so I have already made some rules for myself.
1. I can have "Treats" on the actual holiday, but not all month long. In the past I end up buying candy and what I don't pass out I eat for a few weeks. None of that, if I eat a few pieces on that day, ok then whatever its a holiday and I'm going to live a little, but the day before and after isn't a holiday.
2. I am going to buy candy to pass out that I don't like. I always buy my favorite stuff which is like either snickers or peanut butter cups. So no wonder I eat all the extras when its stuff I love. I may have a hard time buying stuff I don't like, but I am sure there must be some candy out there I don't love.
3. Anything extra we have my husband is going to take to work with him the next day and pass out. That way it isn't sitting in my house tempting me.
I hope these things help me to keep the holiday from becoming a nightmare.
i believe if you do not let yourself indulge it will lead to you bingeing, which you def don't want! Have a fun size candy bar , a couple of hershey kisses, or a square of chocolate (even better if its dark chocolate) to satisfy your craving. As long as you are not eating 12 pieces a day you should be fine! :)
dont eat it til halloween
and when comes halloween time lower your calories by 200 a day for like 3 days so you can eat what you want that day without over doing it

I must say I am pretty proud of myself. I went this past weekend and bought my Halloween candy. I considered not buying any, but I didn't want to punish the neighborhood kids just because of my diet. I will say walking through the isle was incredibly hard, so much candy! I so badly wanted to buy what I usually buy which is snickers and resse's peanut butter cups, those are my 2 favorites. Then sometimes I add m&m's. I knew if I bought that stuff I would want it.
I skipped all the choclate and went straight to the sweettarts, nerds, and some other kind of weird grape candy. It is sitting in the other room and not tempting me one bit. This is the first year I have ever not bought the stuff I like. So hey small victories, right?
right on Beckah! Baby steps! You are doing great!
Chocolate is the hardest for me too, I love it! Especially the lil' mini snicker bars. Because they are "mini" I think I can eat the whole bag! LOL So I must stay away from the chocolate.
I have 3 kids that will be joining in the trick or treating fun this year and it's gonna be tough, but I can do it!
I was concerned about having candy around the house too. I knew that if I bought candy to hand out to trick or treaters, I would just end up eating it all myself. So, instead I bought these "Trick or Treat" coupons for Frosty's that Wendy's was selling. They're really cheap (like $1 for 10) and they entitle the kids to a free small Frosty. I figured this way I can give the kids a treat when they knock on my door, but it won't be something that I will absentmindedly end up snacking on.
WOW!!! That Wendy's thing is BRILLIANT!!! Thanks for sharing!!
I'd suggest buying a bag of really good individually wrapped chocolate like (the Dove or Lindt) and saving those for special treats. I no longer have the urge to eat most of the hershey's kisses that abound, instead I have a square or three or sometimes the whole bar of a dark chocolate, the higher the percentage the better. I take a bar every week to a dance event and share so I only have one or two pieces most of the time.
For halloween, I have halloween pencils and glitter tattos that I give out at work. I'm making a party bag for the kids in my town house complex (10 total) since I won't be giving out candy and don't want tricker treaters.
